Homebrew Dragonborn (Void) Species Details

A very rare dragon, seemingly formed of the night sky with bright white stars for eyes. The scales of the body flowing with lesser stars and colourful nebulae. While they are young, they will take the form of dragonborn to mingle with society.

Dragonborn (Void) Traits

Your draconic heritage manifests in a variety of traits you share with other dragonborn.

One with the Void

Due to your time with the void, you do not sleep, and magic cannot put you to sleep. You meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually visions of multiple realities, past, present, and future. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in Darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in Darkness, only shades of gray.

Draconic Toughness

Your hit point maximum increases by 1, and it increases by 1 every time you gain a level.

Dragon Claws

Your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes and are proficient in. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier + your proficiency bonus, instead of the normal bludgeoning damage for an unarmed strike.

Dragon Wings

At 1st level, you have a flying speed of 10 feet, but must end your movement on the ground. At 5th level, your flying speed becomes 20 feet. Additionally, you can fly without needing to end your movement on the ground. At 9th level, your flying speed becomes 30 feet. At 13th level, your flying speed becomes 50 feet. Armour does not hinder this but must be tailored to fit the wings.

Prehensile Tail

Your tail is prehensile and can manipulate objects up to a range of 10 feet. The tail can only lift a number of pounds equal to five times your Strength score. You can use it to do the following simple tasks: lift, drop, hold, push or pull an object or a creature; open or close a door or a container; grapple someone; or make an unarmed strike. You may do more than this at your DM's discretion.

Tail Lash

You can use your tail to trip or slap opponents, you may use your bonus action to shove or trip an enemy within 10 feet of you or pull an enemy within 10 feet of you towards you.

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 1, and your Constitution score increases by 2.

Age

Young dragonborn grow quickly. They walk hours after hatching, attain the size and development of a 10-year-old human child by the age of 3, and reach adulthood by 15. They live to be at least 4,000.

Alignment

Dragonborn tend to extremes, making a conscious choice for one side or the other in the cosmic war between good and evil (represented by Bahamut and Tiamat, respectively). Most dragonborn are good, but those who side with Tiamat can be terrible villains.

Size

Dragonborn are taller and heavier than humans, standing well over 6 feet tall and averaging almost 250 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Dragon Ancestor

You have draconic ancestry. Choose one type of dragon from the Draconic Ancestry table. Your breath weapon and damage resistance are determined by the dragon type, as shown in the table.

Draconic Ancestry

Dragon Damage Type Breath Weapon
Black Acid 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save)
Blue Lightning 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save)
Brass Fire 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save)
Bronze Lightning 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save)

Green Poison 15 ft. cone (Con. save)
Red Fire 15 ft. cone (Dex. save)

Breath Weapon Attack

You can use an attack action to exhale destructive energy. Your draconic ancestry determines the size and shape of the exhalation. The damage can be either Force or the type detirmined by your ancestry. The saving throw for Force is Dex. On a failed save for Force, the affected target(s) is also pushed away to the end of the affected area.

When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 5th level, 4d6 at 9th level, 5d6 at 13th level, and 6d6 at 17th level

You may use this an amount of times equal to your proficiency modifier + 1. You regain all spent uses after you complete a Long Rest.

Damage Resistance

You have resistance to Force damage as well as to the damage type associated with the color of dragon you descend from.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
