Homebrew Werejaguar Species Details

One of the most ancient and feared of all curses, lycanthropy can transform the most civilized humanoid into a ravaging beast. In its natural humanoid form, a creature cursed by lycanthropy appears as its normal self. Over time, however, many lycanthropes acquire features suggestive of their animal form. In that animal form, a lycanthrope resembles a powerful version of a normal animal. On close inspection, its eyes show a faint spark of unnatural intelligence and might glow red in the dark.

Curse of Lycanthropy. A humanoid creature can be afflicted with the curse of lycanthropy after being wounded by a lycanthrope, or if one or both of its parents are lycanthropes. A remove curse spell can rid an afflicted lycanthrope of the curse, but a natural born lycanthrope can be freed of the curse only with a wish.

Werejaguar

Werejaguars are stealthy and ferocious hunters, known to stalk their prey and enjoy the chase. Lithe and sleekly muscular in humanoid form, they are typically taller than average, though the base race does cause a variety, especially if the curse was passed on, rather than natural born. Werejaguars do not grow as large as other lycanthropes, staying more compact and quick. They do not like to pass on their curse, as they prefer to hunt alone. They typically live in jungles on the fringes of humanoid civilization, preferring to live and hunt alone or in small family groups with people they trust.

Werejaguar Traits

Your werejaguar lycanthrope has the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score by 1, but your Charisma score is decreased by 1.

Age

Lycanthropes have a marginally increased lifespan in relation to their natural form, extending their life by 15 to 20 years.

Alignment

Lycanthropes do not have tendencies to any particular alignments, some will embrace the curse whilst others will attempt to suppress the curse with all their might. Werejaguars tend toward chaotic alignments.

Size

The size of a lycanthropes will vary depending on their natural form, however in their hybrid form a lycanthropes will stand an additional 2 to 3 feet taller than their natural form.

Speed

Your base speed is 30 feet. However, when you are in hybrid or animal form, your speed increases to 40 feet. You also gain a climbing speed of 30 feet.

Darkvision

You can see in non-magical darkness out to 60 feet, though without light, you cannot discern different colors and can only see in shades of grey and red.

Shapechanger

The lycanthrope can use its action to polymorph into a animal-humanoid hybrid, into a creature, or back into its true form, which is humanoid. Its statistics, other than its AC, which becomes 12 in animal (jaguar) form, are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying is transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.

Lycanthrope's Curse

At the start of a night with a Full Moon, or in moments of extreme emotion, you must make a DC16 Wisdom saving throw or lose control of yourself. During this time, the DM has control over what your character does and can award a reroll on your saving throw if they so deem. Some examples may include a family or party member appeasing to the beast or the player fighting the beast inside. Once you make the correct saving throw, you retain control for the rest of the night.

Silvered Weapons

You are vulnerable to Silvered Weapons. When in Hybrid or Animal form, you are resistant to all non-magical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage done by non-silvered weapons.

Feline Stealth

You have proficiency with the stealth skill.

Keen Smell

You have proficiency with the perception skill and advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell. However, you are sensitive to strong smells and have disadvantage on all saving throws involving gas or strong smells.

Pounce (Animal or Hybrid Form only)

If you move at least 15 feet straight toward a creature and then hit it with a claw attack on the same turn, that target must succeed on a Strength saving throw (10 + Dexterity or Strength + Proficiency bonus) or be knocked prone. If the target is prone, you can make one bite attack against it as a bonus action.

Jaguar Form

When in Hybrid Beast form, you gain the Claws and Bite of a Jaguar. You can make two Claw attacks, 2d8 + Dexterity Slashing, per action and one Bite attack, 2d10 + Strength Piercing, per action. On a Bite, if the target is a humanoid, it must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or be cursed with werejaguar lycanthropy.

Languages

You speak Common. You cannot speak in your Animal Form.
