Homebrew Chiropteran Species Details
Creatures of the night, the Chiropteran are as fearful as they are misunderstood. A peace-loving race of humanoid bats, they keep to the caves and the Underdark unless a great threat aboveground requires their intervention.
Wing and Fang
From below, chiroptera look much like large bats Only when they descend to roost on a branch or walk across the ground does their humanoid appearance reveal itself. Standing upright, chiroptera might reach 5 feet tall, and they have large fox-like faces, large amber or sapphire-colored eyes, and even larger ears.
Fur covers their bodies (excepting their leathery wings). Their coat is short and fine, and ranges in color from browns to blacks and reds.
Darkwood Protectors
The chiroptera are more comfortable in caves than above the treetops. However, they are no slouches in the air. They can spend an hour or more on the wing. In battle, they are dynamic and surprisingly adroit fliers, moving with remarkable speed (if not quite grace), diving to lash opponents with weapons or fangs before turning and flying away.
