Homebrew Batlin Species Details

Find Home

Batlin communities are hard to find, unless you know exactly what you're looking for. Finding communities is one of the Batlin's strong suits, being able to feel it within them when they're approaching another Batlin community. This does not mean that Batlin can detect each other as individuals, but more that the power of the group can call out to an individual. The feeling of familiarity as a Batlin approaches community is not like any other feeling.

Batlin communities are tight knit due to the strong values they share. A new Batlin will be accepted into a community with hesitation, but after proving themselves trustworthy they will be treated as though they've been there for their entire life. A newcomer of a different race, is a different story. Batlin are peaceful, but can and will go to great lengths to defend their homes if necessary.

Bat Ancestry

Bat ancestry gives Batlin a sharp sense of perception as well as the ability to see well in dark or dim light. Their perception mirrors the echolocation of their ancestors, allowing them to more easily see or even sense what others cannot. Due to their small size, they are also quite small and agile. Their ability to fly also helps them escape danger, but if flying is not an option, they are not above using their teeth and/or claws on enemies.

Batlin Names

Batlin tend to receive a short, one-syllable name and stick with it for most of their life, although it is also not uncommon for them to change their names, especially if they reach a title of nobility or are recognized for an act of greatness. Surnames are hardly ever changed, only in the case of the name being disgraced to the extent that descendants would no longer want to associate with that lineage. Many people in positions of power are referred to mostly by their last names, as a show of respect for their lineage.

Seeing the World

Batlin value nature and know its power. They understand that nature is in control of them, not the other way around, and they behave as such. They prefer to leave nature in it's untouched state, but if they have to disturb nature they will make sure that it is worth it and that they can somehow thank mother earth for her help later, whether this is by making sure the plants are getting enough water or by helping a creature in need.
