Homebrew Xorn Species Details

Xorn are strange three-sided creatures of an earthly elemental nature.

Appearance

Xorn are very strange looking creatures. They are radially symmetric, having three sides, with an eye, and a leg on each side and an arm between each eye. Their mouth is massive and sits on the top of their bodies. Their arms and legs each have three clawed opposable digits. Xorn skin, bones, and claws are seemingly made of stone.

Life Cycle

Xorn are hermaphroditic. After mating, a xorn lays 2-4 eggs made of beautiful opal. Xorn eggshells are highly prized by the Dao. Xorn are not the best parents, but they do check up on their clutch occasionally before it hatches. After hatching, xorn form nomadic families with their clutchmates and other young xorn who will take them in. Xorn grow continuously as they age. When a xorn dies of old age, their body completely petrifies rather than decaying.

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2 and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Age

Xorn can walk, burrow, and eat mere hours after hatching and take only about a decade to reach adulthood. They live to be around 250.

Alignment

Xorn are typically neutral, being concerned mostly with finding food.

Size

Adult Xorn range from 4 to 8 feet tall, growing throughout their lives, but due to their elemental composition they can weigh up to 1000 pounds. Your size is medium.

Speed

You have a base walking speed of 20 feet, and a base burrowing speed of 20 feet. While burrowing, you don’t disturb nonmagical, unworked earth and stone.

Xorn Senses

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray. Additionally, you can detect and pinpoint the origin of vibrations within 60 feet of you, provided that you and the source of the vibrations are in contact with the same ground or substance.

Elemental Nature

For the purposes of spells and abilities that care about creature type, you are treated as an elemental.

Priceless Diet

You must eat precious metals and stones to survive. You gain no sustenance from normal food or water. You can pinpoint by scent the location of precious metals and stones within 60 feet.

Stone Skin

Due to your stony hide, you have an AC of 15 while unarmored. You can still wield a shield and gain this benefit. Standard armor will not fit you unless custom-made. Additionally, you are resistant to piercing and slashing damage from nonmagical attacks not made with adamantine weapons.

Three Arms

Xorn have three arms. You still only gain an advantage from a single shield, but you can wield a two-handed weapon and a shield or up to 3 one-handed weapons at the same time.

Natural Weapons

Your fanged maw and sharp claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with a bite, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, and with a claw you deal slashing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Terran.
