Homebrew Awakened Ape Species Details

Born in forested lands awakened apes are strangers to rules of civilization. Once mere apes among the trees there were a select few chosen by a powerful wizard or possibly druid. No matter the case these apes always stood out to the caster in some way whether it be strength, ingenuity, or simply they were funny. These apes were granted the gift of a higher intelligence, the ability to speak and use tools even more proficiently than before.

Awakened Ape Traits

Your awakened ape character shares these traits with other apes.

Speed.

Your base walking speed is 30 feet. You also have a climbing speed equal to your movement speed.

Natural Survivor.

You have proficiency in the Nature and Survival skills.

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Age.

Most apes live up to 40 years in the wild. Orangutans live slightly longer, up to 45 years.

Size.

Ranging anywhere from slightly shorter than humans to taller than some and you weigh anywhere from 100 to well over 200 pounds. Your size is medium.

Forager.

When you make an ability check to identify medicinal or edible plants you are considered proficient. In addition, your proficiency bonus is doubled when you do so.
