Homebrew Corpse Fairy Species Details

Corpse Fairies are a small, fey people known and feared for being able to eat entire living organisms, bones and all. They live mainly in forests, where they live in small swarms or, occasionally, alone. They can eat anything, including any living beings, rocks, trees, and even dirt, though they are most often drawn to meat in all it's forms.

Feared Fey

Equipped with a small set of tattered wings, two sets of spindly legs, and a long pair of arms with fingers to match, and a haunting smile with two rows of razor sharp teeth, Corpse Fairies often scare and disgust the other creatures around them. They come in a variety of muted greys, browns, yellows, and reds, with patterns to resemble dying leaves and decomposing creatures.

Life from Death

When a corpse fairy is going to give birth, they find a living creature and burrow under it's skin, into the center of it's chest. At that point they hollow it out a bit from the inside, and give birth. Immediately following the birth, the corpse fairy leaves, not caring for it's young, but leaving it with a warm, safe place to stay and eat as it matures. Eventually the young corpse fairy will eat it's fill and emerge from the corpse to venture out into the world. This is how the corpse fairy got it's name.

Corpse Fairy Names

As Corpse Fairies are not a species that raise their young, they start life without names. They are not the most creative of creatures, and often settle on a name based around their favorite things to eat, such as; Teeth, Femur, Guts, Marrow, Heart, or Spleen. Occasionally, they take names of other things around them, such as Leaf, Rock, Lily, Reed, or Pine.

Corpse fairies mature completely within weeks of being born, and have a lifespan of 3-7 years.

Alignment

The vast majority of corpse fairies are chaotic. Though they are more often neutral and without actual malice, their macabre way of life makes them appear evil to creatures who don't understand them.

Size

Adult corpse fairies stand between 8 inches and 1.5 feet tall, weighing around 5-10 pounds. Your size is Tiny.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 10 feet.

Flight

You have a flying speed of 30 feet. To use this speed, you can’t be wearing medium or heavy armor.

Fey Ancestry

You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can't put you to sleep.

Among the Dead Leaves

Your miniature body and naturally camouflaged skin allows you to effortlessly hide behind nearly anything. You are proficient in the Stealth skill.

Feeble

Your small body makes you unfit for feats of strength. You make Strength checks at disadvantage.

Invisibility

You may cast Invisibility on yourself at 2nd level without expending a spell slot. You must complete a long rest before you can use this feature again.

Razor Sharp Teeth

Your razor sharp teeth are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. Melee Weapon Attack: +0 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 piercing damage.

You can speak varying degrees of broken Common, Elvish, and Sylvan.
