Homebrew D'Novis Species Details

D'Novi are a mysterious people of growing presence throughout the forest, often overlooked and underestimated. They live in the depths of the forest, often in places other races would not dare enter. Known for their short stature and welcoming glow, D'Novi are a fairly gentle race- unless they or those they love are in danger. D'Novi love knowledge and humor, family and friends, leading and learning, and being with those who show love to them.

Small and Beautiful

With their short stature and light-spoken tone, most others find the D'Novi to serve no threat. D'Novi often stay within the confines of their kingdom, and are known to spend most of their time joking or taking peaceful walks. They are very short, only coming to about two to three feet. They are often found low to the ground, unless they are young. During their youth they spend most of their time growing on the sides of decaying trees.

D'Novi coloration is known to be very deep and earthy. Their skin is many shades of brown, dark green, dark red, or black. They have no hair, but have a glowing mushroom as their head. The glow can either be a light blue for men or a bright pink for women. They favor clothing made of natural materials such as grasses, leaves, or flowers and gravitate towards earthy colors. Some D'Novi women use small necklaces made of berries or acorns.

Millenniums of Knowledge

Rumor says that D'Novi peoples can lives for millions of years, but it truly depends on their environment. Darker forests serve the D'Novi people better, and the darker a forest is, the longer a D'Novi will live. They can live outside of the forest, but the longer they are outside of it, the weaker they become.

With this age comes a great deal of knowledge. The D'Novi people are some of the most intelligent and wise people on the entire planet. They take great pride in their quest to learn, and often spend many hours reading or writing books. Each D'Novi kingdom holds its own library filled with hundreds or thousands of books. These books are in multiple languages, and are all written on leaves and bound using different natural weeds, stems, and others. The smartest or wisest people within the D'Novi kingdoms often branch off to start their own kingdoms. These monarchs are often an outlet for great learning and wisdom for their people, and hold great pride in their role. D'Novi people are very calm with other kingdoms of D'Novi, and rarely have conflict.

Humor and Caution

Humor and joy are very important to the D'Novi people. They enjoy social opportunities, and often are the first to crack a joke or elicit a smile. They are known to struggle to be serious, and laugh at the worst of times. Parties and Galas are often occurring at multiple D'Novi kingdoms at a time, and everyone attends. There is no real social classes and so everyone is allowed to attend these events. Many people know they are nearing a D'Novi kingdom due to the sounds of music and laughter, and the fluorescent glow that flickers.

Although they are very personable and social, they go into each conversation with a great deal of caution. D'Novi have the acute ability to read both situations and people very well, and their wisdom often guides them in the correct situation. It is rumored that D'Novi often know things about people of other races that they do not know of themselves. This leads the D'Novi to be very careful when interacting with new people. If the D'Novi feel that new people are safe, they will quickly open up and bond well. If they do not feel safe, they bind deep into the ground and become very territorial. Once bound, they are nearly impossible to move. If, by some strong force, they are moved, they face great damage and are greatly weakened.

Leadership

Although they are small, D'Novi hold large personalities. One of the largest portions of their personality is their desire to lead. They are some of the most loyal creatures on the planet, and never back down from a challenge. Masters of direction, D'Novi can lead through any forest- even those that they are not from. They interact well with animals, and very rarely cause any conflict. Their main missions in life are to keep their people safe, and maintain peace throughout the forest.
