Homebrew Braixen Species Details

Braixen are bipedal, fox-like Pokémon. While the majority of their fur is yellow, they have black legs, a white face and arms, and a dark orange tail tip. The fur on their cheeks tends to be longer, and a small mane of white fur will covers their shoulders and chest. Long, wavy tufts of dark orange fur grow out of their large ears, and their eyes and small nose match this fur in color. They also have two pointed teeth in their upper jaws. Above its legs, their fur sweeps out to either side, resembling a skirt or shorts. Each paw has three small digits. Braixen always keep a stick or some similar object in their tail, which they set alight using friction from their bushy tail fur. The flame from such a lit twig is used for both attack and communication.

Braixen Traits

As a Braixen, you possess a number of traits that reflect your abilities.

Ability Score Increase

Your charisma score increases by 2, and your intelligence score increases by 1.

Age

Braixens are thought to age at the same rate as Humans, though may live a bit shorter. Consult your DM for an appropriate lifespan.

Alignment

Braixens generally love freedom and expressing themselves, be it through casting magic or waving their fiery sticks around. They will tend to lean toward the gentler aspects of chaos.

Size

Braixens stand between 4 and 5 feet tall, and weigh about 50-70 pounds. Your size is medium.

Speed

You have a base walking speed of 30 feet.

Pyromancer's resistance

You have resistance to fire damage.

Fiery Sorcery

You know the thaumaturgy cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the scorching ray spell as a 2nd-level spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the Aganazzar’s Scorcher spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Rough Tail

You have a large tail that can be used for stowing one object up to roughly the size of a medium stick. Additionally, there is a lot of friction inside the tail. As an action, you may drag any flammable object (such as a wooden weapon) along the inside of your tail, and ignite the object or weapon. Any creature you strike with the flaming object takes an extra 1d4 fire damage. If the object you ignited is a weapon, you may use your charisma modifier for the attack and damage rolls instead of your strength or dexterity for melee attacks made with that weapon. You may put out the fire using a bonus action.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write common and one other language of your choice. Braixens may be attracted to languages that can further their sorcerous abilities, such as Draconic or Elvish.
