Homebrew Dhampir Species Details
The man sprints through the forest, making sure to keep an eye out for his adversary. The man had been chased by bounty hunters before but, never like this one. He hits a root of a large tree and tumbles onto the ground. He mutters a curse under his breath and begins to stand before he hears a whoosh through the trees to the left of him. Scared for his life he mutters the incantation and blasts a Fire Bolt through the trees to his left. The Fire Bolt strikes the tree in a cloud of sparks but he did not hit his adversary. “Vampire!” he shouts “Show yourself damn you!” he mutters the incantation again and holds a Fire Bolt in his hands, his eyes glancing from tree to tree trying to see where his adversary may be. “I’m no Vampire” the voice directly behind him sends a chill down his spine, he spins with his flaming hand outward but his wrist is caught and he is forced to fire the bolt through the air. He sees her chilling face, her pale white skin, pure red eyes and white hair streaking down her shoulders. “I’m worse than a Vampire” she says with a smile before plunging her fangs into his throat.
Born of Vampires, Dhampir are the unholy combination of Vampire and Man, either born from the loins of either or simply a Vampire's bite did not completely turn you into the undead abominations they are. Dhampir are Vampires with the ability to walk in sunlight and suffer no drawbacks, enter homes without asking, cross running streams and yet still possess the powers of the Vampire. Some Dhampir are the faithful servants of their parent while others have turned against their parent, vowing to destroy them or simply wish to walk their own path.
Hated by All
Dhampir, as the progeny of a Vampire and a mortal, are usually despised by both castes of society with Vampire Covens viewing the Dhampir as lesser and mortal society finding them to be unholy abominations like their forbearers.
Depending on the Dhampir's birth and childhood some will be taught how to harness their abilities by their Vampiric parent while others will be forced to go alone, learning from themselves and having to decide whether they are more monster or man.
Monster or Man
A Dhampir's physiology is one of constant conflict, the mortal side is fighting with the immortal side and the soul of the Dhampir will need to decide whether to be more Vampire or more mortal.
A Dhampir that walks the road of a Vampire will find themselves discovering more powerful latent Vampiric abilities within themselves but will find their alignment moving more towards evil, themselves becoming thirstier and thirstier for blood and possibly going insane.
A Dhampir that walks the side of man will find themselves lacking in the pure power of a Dhampir that walks the side of monster but will find themselves possessing greater control over their own mind and using their abilities to defeat Vampires rather than join them. A Dhampir on the side of mortals can find themselves more loved and trusted by society.
Despite what side you walk you will still crave blood and be forced to drink blood once a day from either animals or, a more filling meal.
Dhampir Names
As children of Vampires and Mortals their names can be anything from the Vampire's original race, their mortal parent's race or simply named after another separate race entirely.
As a Dhampir you will be forced to choose a side within yourself, this side can fluctuate with you possibly gaining some of the Dhampir's racial traits if you choose the side of Vampires while the side of mortals can result in greater trust of you within normal society and your adventuring party. Those who wish to walk the side of neutrality, choosing either side at times will find this hard as mortals do not trust easy and Vampires may decide you are not one of them.
Dhampir Traits
As a Dhampir you have inherited the following abilitiesAbility Score Increase
You gain a +2 to Constitution and a +1 to Dexterity.
Age
Your maturity age remains normal (as a Human you'd mature in your late teens) but every 10 Human years you physically age 1 year.
Alignment
Depending on the side they choose a Dhampir can walk the side of good or evil.
Darkvision
You have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60ft of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light but you cannot discern color in darkness, only in shades of grey.
Vampiric Resistance
You are resistant to necrotic damage as well as poison damage. You also are immune to disease including Lycanthropy.
Hunger for Blood
A Dhampir inherits the hunger of their Vampire forbearers. Once per week you must drink your weight in blood. You can do this all at once (such as drinking a medium sized creature at one time) or drinking from smaller creatures over the course of the week. You can eat normal mortal food however it will not fulfill your hunger whatsoever. Failing to drink blood will result in points of exhaustion and each day you are exhausted you must also make a Wisdom saving throw of 10 + the number of days you have been starving, if you fail this saving throw you go mad and attack any living creature in your vicinity until you have filled yourself. Upon filling yourself you lose the exhaustion levels as per usual removal of exhaustion. Your 'Feast' feature does not count as fulfilling yourself for the day as you do not fully drink the target.
Fangs
A Dhampir inherits their Vampire forbearers terrifying bite. As part of an attack action you can Bite a creature within 5ft of you. Your bite deals 1d6 piercing damage plus your Strength Modifier as well as 1d6 necrotic damage.
Feast
Once per short rest you can make an attack with your fangs and regain hit points equal to the dealt Necrotic damage.
Dhampir Evolution
Dhampir's can grow as Vampires, if they drink blood more than they need to survive and demonstrate more and more blood thirsty behavior they can become more like Vampires, gaining a multitude of Racial Feats that grant them both the advantages and disadvantages of normal Vampires. If they are Good or Neutral Aligned they will slowly and slowly lose their alignment until they are Evil aligned. A Dhampir can also evolve if they choose to be more mortal than Vampire however what they gain from this can be decided by the DM.
