Homebrew Amar Kabal Species Details

The Amar Kabal is a very powerful race that was created by the wizard Eldrin in a time when magic flowed freely throughout the world and many lost arts were still practiced.  At the time, Eldrin felt like other wizards of the world were conspiring against him, and so he created a number of races to protect him.  The Amar Kabal was once such race.  These humanoid creatures look rather similar to half-elves--slimmer, taller, more graceful than your average human.  The Amar Kabal possess remarkable agility and nimbleness, however, their most potent ability resides in the existence of the amar, a small seed, similar to a walnut, that grows out of the nape of their neck.  Unlike in most creatures, the spirit of the Amar Kabal is not bound to the body, but rather, to the amar.  Should any Amar Kabal fall, either in battle or to old age, the amar can be planted in fertile soil and, in a few weeks, the Amar Kabal will return at the same age as it was when it first died.  To that end, all Amar Kabal participate in a coming-of-age ceremony called the First Death, in which they take their own lives and ensure that they will resurrect at age 20 each time their amar is replanted.  Unfortunately for the Amar Kabal, while they have enormously long lifespans, they are also notoriously infertile and rarely have children.  Therefore, the Conclave, the ruling council of the Amar Kabal that sits some of the oldest of the race, are extremely protective of their people, and should any suffer True Death, which occurs when the amar is damaged or destroyed, the entire race will rise together to demolish the killer.

Amar Kabal Traits

Rebirth of the Amar Kabal

Should you, at any time, die, your allies can recover your amar to replant you and bring you back to life.  If your amar is recovered and you are replanted in fertile soil, you will resurrect in 3 weeks with full health and temporary hit points equal to half your total hit points, as you come out of the seed rejuvenated and as youthful as you were when you were 20 years old.  These temporary hit points will last indefinitely until you are damaged.  The resurrection process can be sped up through a casting of the Plant Growth Spell, however, the magic-user must devote 12 hours to weaving the spell in order for it to have any effect.  If the spell is successfully cast, with no interruptions, then the resurrection time is reduced by two weeks.  Further castings of the spell have no effect.

However, should an intelligent creature get ahold of your amar, they may destroy it.  The amar has an AC of 17 and it has 3d6 health points, although it is immune to acid, cold, and psychic damage. If the detached amar would take cold damage, rather than doing damage, the resurrection time is extended by 1d4 weeks for each hit.  If acid damage successfully hits the detached amar, you will gain no temporary health points on resurrection and your AC upon rebirth is lowered by 3 points.  In addition, while it is rare, the amar occasionally grows malformed.  After awakening from rebirth, roll a 1d100.  On a roll of 1 or 2, your amar reforms incorrectly and you lose this feature forever.

As a live Amar Kabal, you are vulnerable to fire and poison damage, as the amar is especially weak to this damage.
