Homebrew Devourer Species Details

" As I turned the corner I saw a most blood curdling sight; a one armed man hungrily eating the corpse of a elven woman. In horror I watched as the stub of his arm began to bubble and grow inch after inch until it was fully restored almost as if no injury befell it. It was then that I knew that I encountered the rumored Devourer." - Bregorn SteelForged

Born from an ancient Necromancer's Homunculus these misfortunate creatures roam around the realms simply trying to live peacefully.

Human? Elf? Who knows?

The Devourer can look like any race depending on its origin due to the fact that they gain physical traits from their food. As they are born from other devourers who pass away sprouting from their bodies like a chick from an egg; the physical properties of the parent are passed on an example would be if the parent had eaten a dwarf. The dwarf trait depends on what the devourer eats if it eats its muscle it will gain more muscle, if its eyes it will gain darkvision, etc. Their height and body type is determined by the last race eaten by the parent. They can have a wide variety of hair, skin, and eye colors even have two different eye colors or spots of different color on their skin. Their most prominent feature is their teeth which is are razor sharp used for tearing flesh. They prefer light clothes that covers their mouths.

Long and Sorrowfull Lives

After being born as babies from the parents belly the Devourer will grow within minutes to teen hood. After the initial growth spurt they will mature slightly slower than humans even if their parents had eaten an elf or a long lived race. Even though techniquelly a newborn its intelligence will be able to read the language of the parent. The parent will often leave a journal near its body that will give the child basic knowledge of the area around it. Around 105-115 yrs old is how long they live. Even in their hundreds they will appear younger but when the baby begins to grow as it comes closer the birth they will age rapidly until death. That doesn't mean that they aren't able to reproduce normally it is possible for a devourer to have children with another race. The child will be a devourer and will take traits not from its devourer parent but the other parent. It is however very rare that they will find a companion that can deal with the cannibal habits.

Seeking Fellowship

The devourer while rare to join society will often travel the lands hoping to find some semblence of friendship or companionship. Many will often try to become adventerers but all to often are driven away after their cannibalism is found out. Some have found that being a hermit or a traveling salesman fits them better than adventering.

Devourer Names

The names are often self given unless born from another race. They will take names of the parent or will give themselves names of things they like. Sometimes the parent will name the child in the journal but that depends on the parent.
