Homebrew Aardelon Species Details
Many cultures through the worlds can claim an arcane or elemental link to the world or planes around them, with the effects of planar and arcane influence being seen all over the world. While it can appear in anomalies of other races, the most apparent connection can be found in the warm coastal burrows of Aardelon colonies.
Desert Descendants
Almost all Aardelons live in hot climates suited to their anatomy, their tanned scale-like skin protects them from the sweltering heat and their reptile-like bodies allow them to burrow and as such their abodes are a combination of above ground sandy structures and underground tunnels out of the sun. Aardelons share a resemblance with their idols, the desert lizards. They have tails for navigation and balance and rock like nails for burrowing tunnels, holes and underground homes. The arcana in the blood flowing through their veins manifests differently in each Aardelon ,often as magical power of different practices.
Seen in silhouette, an Aardelon can usually pass for human or perhaps a tiefling because if their tail. Those who choose to spend more time above ground in the sun would commonly be more slender and lean whereas those who spend their lives under ground more would probably be stockier more muscular or even portly.
Aardelon communities are often very tight knit regardless of size with the elder or ruler of the settlement knowing every creature and domestic animal in a region.
Some Aardelons live as outcasts, driven out of their collective homes after crimes within their society. These full named outcasts often live apart from other humanoids in the world for their unsettling appearance and strange magic, or assuming leadership of savage humanoids and weird cults in untamed lands. Others gain positions of great influence, especially where arcane practitioners are revered. A few Aardelons may leave the safety of their communities with the permission of their elders and travel to other planes in search of arcana and ways to advance Aardelon society.
Wild and Confident
Aardelon rarely lack confidence, seeing themselves as equal or better to almost any challenge in their path. This certainty might manifest as graceful self-assurance in one Aardelon and as arrogance in another. Such self- confidence can sometimes blind Aardelons to risk, and their great plans often get them and others into trouble.
Too much failure can chip away at even an Aardelon’s sense of self, so they constantly push themselves to improve, honing their talents and perfecting their craft.
Aardelon Names
Aardelons use the names which they are given by their settlement elder upon the day of their birth in their tight knit communities. They then take surnames as signs of dishonour upon being cast out as penance for sins. Common names for males include the likes of Daylon, Attodi, Boultann or Llatalon. Female names include; Thoualla, Mouali, Thris or Jjanili. Whereas non binary names could be; Mamha, Kasla, Akya and Feraan
