Homebrew Bandar Species Details

Varied Appearance

The Bandar are humanoid, but very tall and thin, with large eyes, and a layer of downy fur that can vary in hues of brown, grey, red, and black and white. Their bodies are angular, with long limbs, and an extra joint in their fingers. Their eyes vary in color though most are some variation of yellow or red. Some Bandar variants rarely exceed 3 feet in height, while others can be upwards of 7 feet tall. While capable of walking on two legs, the Bandar can maneuver on all fours, as their feet are semi-digitigrade.

Community

Bandar primarily live in small communities, though it is not uncommon for some Bandar to strike out on their own, explore, and then return. The groups live high above the ground, among the trees. Small Bandar communities are simple, establishing an area of forest as their own and congregating in the treetops, while larger groups construct series of tree houses and bridges to act as a compound. There is little overlap between the various groups, though solitary Bandar sometimes phase in and out of groups during their travel. Communities are tight knit but not particularly organized, recognizing no one leader. Most Bandar are peaceful, though somewhat chaotic, there are sects of Bandar with more violent and territorial tendencies.

Natural Acrobats

With their impressive physiology, the Bandar are contortionists by nature, capable of twisting and folding their bodies however they choose.

Mischievous Nature

It's up for debate if their mischievous pursuits are inherently malicious or if the Bandar simply think it's good fun, but they enjoy spooking travelers. This often takes the form of contorting their bodies into unsettling figures and lying in wait, or keeping only the gleam of their eyes visible. Bandar will occasionally stalk travelers, often there is no intent to harm, only to unsettle. In some areas, the Bandar have taken to rigging elaborate traps, mimicking sounds, and intentionally rustling overhead branches. Some of the more...dangerous behaviors have sparked rumors of ghost stories.

Bandar Names

Bandar naming conventions are rather varied and often change. They may change their names multiple times over their lives, taking them from people they meet, things they find, or simply putting together any series of sounds they find pleasing at the time. Names are often shared and traded amongst Bandar groups, and it is not uncommon for young Bandar to change their name constantly, though the fluidity of naming tends to solidify the older they get.
