Homebrew Corgi Species Details
Corgis, also known as "dwarf dogs", are a popular breed of dog in the world. With a strong bark and a bite to match, corgis were originally bred for the purpose of herding sheep and cattle. Thanks to their low height and innate agility, corgis can herd cattle without the danger of being trampled under hoof. This allows corgis the freedom to safely nip at the heels of the livestock to move them wherever they need to go, giving them the lesser known moniker: "heelers". Despite this origin, many in the nobility have adopted corgis as house pets due to their innate charisma and charm. Like most dogs, corgis exhibit a strong sense of loyalty towards their masters, making them faithful companions.
Corgis typically have a short lifespan and live contently under the protection of their masters. However, in rare instances, corgis will embark on adventures either to make a name for themselves in their fleeting existence or at the behest of their masters. When playing a corgi, ask yourself the following questions: What is your relationship with your master? What drives your character to forgo a life of treats for the thrills and dangers of adventure? Why are you not playing a more viable race like "half-elf" or "variant human"? It's a big world out there, and much bigger through the eyes of a corgi.
Corgi Traits
Your corgi character has a list of inbred traits from your canine heritage.Ability Score Increase
Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Charisma score increases by 2. However, your Intelligence score decreases by 1.
Age
Corgis grow to their full height by 9 months and reach maturity in two years. Most corgis do not make it past the age of 15 years.
Alignment
Corgis can have any alignment, but no corgi is ever evil. This is because they are all good boys/girls.
Size
Corgis stand at a height of roughly 1 foot and weigh between 30 and 40 pounds. Your size is Tiny (your carrying capacity is halved).
Speed
You have a walking speed of 35 feet.
Natural Shepherd
You are proficient in the Perception and Animal Handling skills.
Keen Hearing and Smell
You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.
Beast
You are classified as a beast (not humanoid) in the context of spell effects. Creatures that attempt to use the polymorph spell to transform into you do not gain your class features, feats, or equipment.
Due to your lack of opposable thumbs, you can only hold one object using your mouth and cannot wield any weapon that requires two hands. If you are holding a spellcasting focus or material component in your mouth, you can still satisfy the verbal components of a spell through growling. Wearing the spellcasting focus as a collar is also valid so long as you touch it with your paw while casting a spell. Also, any nonmagical armor must be custom made to fit your corgi body. Attuning to magical armor forces the armor to conform to your form.
Bite
Your teeth are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Limited Language
You understand Common. However, you are incapable of speaking any language. Only a tongues spell or similar effect can lift this restriction. You can, however, speak with creatures under the effects of the speak with animals spell.
