Homebrew Child of Fire Species Details
A Child of Fire (also known as a "Burning Child") is a person who was murdered using a magical fire and was brought back via necromancy. Children of fire do not age and are bound to wander the material realm until the individual that caused their demise perishes by the same flame that killed them. If that individual dies by other means, whether natural or malign, the child of fire must locate the next living kin and burn them to death or come to accept their fate and release the flaming core within them, causing a massive explosion. It is unknown what happens after.
It is not unusual for them to have no recollection of their past lives, save for the memory of their death in flame. This can make them easily manipulated and is also why it is not uncommon for the necromancer that resurrected a child of fire to be the same culprit that caused their murder, as children of fire make excellent conduits of energy and are often used (against their will) for powering large machinery, experiments, or magical rituals that require immense amounts of magical willpower.
Children of fire take on the combined traits of the race they were before their transformation as well as the traits of the fire in which they perished. They often look like they did before, except with smoldering eyes and skin that puts off a faint orange-red glow and unusual warmth. Some are even known to present with ashy skin and glowing cracks that emanate heat.
However, it is actually the fiery core within them that contains their true being and they can survive without their outer shell if separated, if extremely limited in mobility. Children of fire are fueled by the burning anguish associated with their murder and can produce scorching flames that engulf themselves in a shield of fiery energy as well as perform miraculous feats involving the manipulation of fire. It is interesting to note that they can be selective with what their flame burns, and can choose not to burn things like articles of clothing and other beings for which they harbor feelings of kinship or love.
