Homebrew Ainok Species Details

Before humans arrived in Tarkir, the dog-like Ainok mastered its harshest climes with grit and cunning. Today, the Ainok live as family among the Abzan of the Shifting Wastes and the Temur of the Qal Sisma mountains, renowned for their survival skills and unshakeable loyalty.

Ainok mature more quickly and live shorter lives than humans. They reach maturity in their early teens and reach old age in their forties.

Alignment

Ainok are pragmatic survivalists who generally prioritize the well-being of themselves and their comrades before other concerns, good or evil. They are loyal companions and skew toward lawful alignments.

Size

Ainok are roughly human height. Your size is Medium

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Bite

The Ainok have long, sharp teeth and can deliver a savage bite. You may make an unarmed attack that deals 1d4 + your strength modifier piercing damage.

Keen Nose

You have a powerful sense of smell. You have advantage on Intelligence (Investigation) and Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell. Additionally, you have advantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks for tracking creatures if you have their scent.

Languages

You can speak Ainok, which has no written language. You can also speak, read, and write Common.

Qal Sisma Ainok

Ainok trekked the Qal Sisma mountains long before the first Temur khans. Though they generally prefer the company of their own kind, they recognize the strength of non-Ainok Temur and embrace them as their packmates in survival and in war.

The Ainok are the original inhabitants of the Shifting Wastes. They possess a wiry, jackal-like frame that is well adapted to the deprivations of their desert home. It is their ancient wisdom that allows the Abzan to not only survive, but thrive in the inhospitable wastes.
