Homebrew Caniho Species Details

Similar to Tabaxi, Caniho are their canine-counterparts. However, being slightly more animalistic than humanoid, it is incredibly hard for them to integrate into society. Believed to have originally stemmed from human-animal experimentation, these creatures are some sort of amalgamation of a member of the canidae and humans.

Some have long dog or wolf-like ears, long fluffy tails, fur in various places. All have sharp teeth and a primal instinct. Most of them walk on all fours and find it extremely difficult to walk upright with their speed being halved.

They can fully comprehend humanoid society, that was never the problem, but integrating themselves is a whole other problem. Most being unable to speak, read, or write, they struggle with any schooling or job. Also, for those from less-domesticated ancestors, such as wolves of coyotes, they often get aggressive and can bite anyone who comes near.

Most end up in prison, boot camp, boarding school, or government compounds for not being able to adjust to society properly. Most of these places try to aggressively force them to be normal, but it almost never works. 

Caniho Traits

Age

Shifters are quick to mature both physically and emotionally, reaching young adulthood at age 10. They rarely live to be more than 70 years old.

Alignment

Shifters tend toward neutrality, being more focused on survival than concepts of good and evil. A love of personal freedom can drive shifters toward chaotic alignments.

Being unable to adjust to society, they are almost always chaotic aligned. Also, their intense need for survival tends to lead them towards neutrality, not often understanding the difference between good and bad, besides getting treats or being yelled at.

You have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 30 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
