Homebrew Umbreon Species Details
"Umbreon, the Moonlight Pokémon. When an Eevee has had sufficient training and is exposed to moonlight, it evolves into an Umbreon."
— The national Pokedex
Umbreons have sleek, black bodies with four slender legs and typically crimson eyes. They have two pairs of pointed teeth (one in the upper jaw and one in the lower jaw) which are visible when one of their mouths is open. They have long, pointed ears and a bushy tail, each with a yellow band around them. Their foreheads and limbs also have yellow rings on them, usually at the shoulders and thighs. The ears do not have an opening, instead picking up sound from all directions like a microphone would.
Their yellow markings glow at night or when they are excited, and can be used for intimidation in some cases given the right circumstances and demeanor on the part of the Umbreon. They are usually able to hide in the darkness while waiting for opponents, and their yellow rings will glow when they leap to attack. They are also capable of spraying a poisonous sweat when agitated.
They evolve from Eevees who, without encountering any other factors, reach a certain level of maturity under moonlight.
Stalkers of the Darkness
Umbreons are exceptionally compatible with settings that feature low lighting. The Underdark being a good example. Certain Umbreon communities may even get along with the Drow, or they may instead be effective at resisting the more tyrannical denizens of the Underdark. It is up to your DM as worldbuilder to determine whether they are generally antagonistic, or generally friendly and good-natured.
Born Hunters
Umbreons are born hunters, and skilled at stealthy stalking. Some Umbreon communities could likely subsist on a nocturnal, hunter and gatherer lifestyle.
