Homebrew Bogey Species Details

 

"Poor ol' Estevone. He was just a-huntin' for a meal, half-starved when it happened. He took a shot at it with his crossbow and took the long shaggy thing it left behind for a stew. How in the world was he to know he'd shot the tail off a very vengeful bogey who' come for him while he slept? Bogeys are a reclusive race of small humanoids that often live in the foothills of the mountains. They have features that resemble cats, leading many to believe they were related to tabaxi or leonin for a time, but with no visible noses, thick shaggy fur covering their bodies, and long, bushy, and gangly tails that can grow the entire length of their bodies. No one know why their tails can grow that long, but all know that they are fiercely protective of their tails, which they call "tailypo". They are a wild and unpredictable race, leading many to believe they are a race that has only recently gained sentience, despite a mostly laidback nomadic lifestyle. They regard society with little regard, seeing things like money or metal as nothing more than nest materials, and may take them without asking permission. Many are solitary, preferring to go it alone over living in groups or tribes. In fact, the only time bogeys are known to group together is to reproduce, and even those only last long enough to do the deed and move on, always on the move. They rarely interact with other intelligent races, which when combined with their animalistic appearance, leads to many bogeys being on the end of a stray crossbow bolt or spear from a hunter who thinks they are a wild animal. When this happens, the long tail often becomes a casualty, being partially or completely torn off. And when a bogey loses its precious "tailypo", it becomes vengeful, and will hunt down and mercilessly slaughter the being that took its tail away, or die trying.

 

Bogey Traits

Your bogey character has the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Age

Bogeys reach adulthood at age 8 and live up to 60 years.

Alignment

Bogeys are typically neutral, as they care only for their own needs. Good or evil bogeys are very rare, though not impossible

Size

Bogeys are between 3 and 4 feet tall and weigh between 40 and 80 pounds. Your size is Small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Tailypo

Your tail is a natural weapon you can use to make unarmed strikes with. The attack deals 1d4 + your Strength modifier.

Bogey Claws

Because of your claws, you have a climbing speed of 20 feet. In addition, your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Nimble Escape

You can take the Disengage or Hide action as a bonus action on each of your turns.

Vengeful for Tailypo

If a creature lands an critical attack on you, the creature hits your tail. You will then enter a rage-like state where you only can focus on the creature that attacked your precious tailypo. You can only attack with melee attacks in this state, and all your attacks are made with advantage against that creature. The state ends when either the creature dies, or you drop to 0 HP and are rendered unconscious.
