Homebrew Awakened Skeleton Species Details

I was awakened on a barren landscape of some ancient battle, half stuck in the dirt below me. Lifting my hands to pull myself out, I was surprised to see that the flesh had disappeared to time, revealing the ivory remains within. I dug myself free, wind flowing through the crevices of my ribcage, producing an eerie whistle. The white flowers, dotting the landscape, were revealed to be bones, wiped clean with time. Faces protruded from the ground, broken limbs, discarded feet and hands littering this ancient battleground. Tattered flags, standing stoic and flapping in the wind for an empire long forgotten, decorated the desecration. It made me sad, the death and destruction. What power favored me, to wake me up amongst this hell?

In a long forgotten battle field, strange, unknown magic awakens a skeleton with no memories of their former life. They are left with the task of finding their way through a world that believes them to be evil abominations.

Awakened Skeleton Traits

Your skeleton character is granted certain traits from their former life and race, along with their now undead existence.

Lingering traits

When you pick this race, choose a race that you were in life. This affects your physical body, as well as your traits. A tiefling, for example, would have bone horns and a tail, as well as it's respective traits. You keep all of your base race's traits other than those below that would replace former traits, and gain all other traits listed below.

Ability Score Increase

You gain all the ability score improvements from your former life (add them manually).

Age

Your undead nature grants you an indefinite lifespan.

Alignment

Skeletons tend towards their former alignments, though death can sometimes twist them towards evil.

Size

Skeletons retain the size they had in life, losing a few in inches to decomposition.

Speed

Your base walking speed is the same as it was in your former life.

Undead Nature

A skeleton doesn't require air, food, drink, or sleep, but to regain spell slots, traits, and similar things, you spend the duration of the long or short rest doing no more than light work.

Gutless

Your lack of flesh grants you an immunity to poison damage, as well as an immunity to being poisoned.

Lost Buoyancy

Skeletons are not buoyant, having lost their flesh, and sink in water. They do not need to breathe, however, and could simply traverse the bed of a river to get to the other side while their companions swim over.

Skeletel Body

With no flesh to guard bone, you have a vulnerability to bludgeoning damage, but with no flesh to pierce or blood to lose, you gain a resistance to piercing damage.

Languages

You can read, write, and understand all languages you knew in life, and by some mysterious magic, you can speak.
