Homebrew Briarfolk Species Details

The Briarfolk are mostly females. The males are few and rare so they stay protected underground while the females hunt and gather food. There is little to no history on them since they only appeared lately and there is a lot to be learned about them. One thing for sure don't fight one of them in open planes or forests, because they will outrun you and will outmaneuver you.

Age. Briarfolk mature faster than humans, reaching adulthood at the age of 12 and living up to 50 years.

Alignment. Their wild and unpredictable nature brings them closer to chaotic alignments, but it varies depending on their upbringing and the community they grew up in

Size. Briarfolk are taller on average than humans and relatively slender. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Briarfolk are nimble, and adept climbers. They have a base speed of 35, and a climb speed equal to their walking speed

Briarfolk Traits

As a briarfolk, you have the following traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and your Charisma score increases by 1.

Swift

Briarfolk are incredibly acrobatic creatures! They are all proficient with the Acrobatics skill

Digging Ambusher

You have a 20 feet burrowing speed, and you can choose to leave a tunnel behind or not. If you surprise a creature from burrowing out from under it and hit it with an attack on your first turn in combat, the attack deals an extra 2d6 damage to it. You can use this trait only once per combat.

Keen Senses

Briarfolk have incredibly keen senses thanks to a life in the wilds. You have advantage on Perception checks related to hearing or smelling.

Expert Jumper

Briarfolk are quite adept jumpers, thanks to their relation to rabbits! They gain a bonus to their High Jump distance by 10ft, and Long Jump distance of 10ft!

Sharp Claws

Briarfolk have incredibly sharp claws! Your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
