Homebrew Custodians Species Details

Man-made mechanical beings created for the specific purpose of acting as police in the costal trade city of Ebimond. Large sentinels created using a variety of materials from wood, a variety of metals and even stone, these entities are brought to life using complex magic by the Royal Artificer of Ebimond, Favia. Through this magic they have gained souls and can even feel pain. Although created with the express purpose of acting as police for the city, they have since gained general citizenship and now live in the city among the people. Despite this however, most have kept their jobs as guards, some taking new jobs as servants for rich households.

There is a high level of animosity between some groups of citizens and the custodians, for the most part however, the people accept them as valuable guardians and visitors to the city are fascinated by them, with academics, scholars and those of a magical inclination traveling to Ebimond with the expressed purpose of seeing the automatons for themselves. 

Custodians, as a race were created with the purpose of serving, and so are generally kind, friendly people, that will do what is asked of them as instinct, with some, more "liberated" custodians actively going against this instinct. A custodian is made to please, putting itself before others. Each custodian thinks of the Royal Artifcer Fevia as their mother, with some even worshipping her as priests, creating temples and erecting shrines around the city for custodians to leave offerings and pray to their mother. Most Custodians live in tight-knit communities, and treat other custodians as brothers and sisters, sharing a deep familial bond. This bond, along with the worship of their great mother is deeply important to Custodians and will be held as a higher level of importance than other people or even themselves. 

Outside of the city Custodians are known across the lands, but few have ever seen one on real life before, and so they will often be met with stares of astonishment and whispers of terror. Due to this, most Custodians traveling outside of the city will cover themselves to avoid attention and pass themselves off as a human. 

Tall beings standing between 6 and 7 feet, and weighing about 200 kilograms, they're appearance differs based on the reason for creation, with early generation custodians being larger, more intimidating and fairly uniform. Newer generations are created by Fevia, when custodians come to her wishing to be parents. Because of this, new custodians are created with far more variation in appearance. When custodians are first created they are fully formed but their mind is that of a child, the time that they reach full maturity inexplicably differs from anywhere between 1 month to a year. The material from which they're made depends on what the parents can pay for, with cheaper custodians being made from rock and rudimentary metals and more high end ones being made of beautifully carved wood and the finest, strongest metals. Typically custodians are created in the image of their creator, with specifications made by the parents. Despite being made from inorganic materials, Custodians have unique personalities and regular sounding voices, but the accent and type of voice is the same from creation and varies wildly between custodians. They do not share an accent as a race.

Custodians Traits

A body made of wood, stone or metal, a core of pure magical light, lenses for eye, human form

Age

Custodians are considered an adult when they join the workforce and there is not an expected lifespan.
Custodians mentally mature at varying rates, however the generally accepted time is one to three months. As Custodians have only existed for about a century, none have died of natural causes such as age, and their tough shells are incredibly resistant and thus are expected to live for a long time

Alignment

Most Custodians are Lawful as they serve the city, and even the ones that don't are built to follow the rules and be generally helpful and kind, however some actively go against this and while never being evil, they can lean towards neutral and in rare cases chaotic.

Languages

You can speak common, custodian and two other languages of your choice                                                                                                                                                                                            Being designed to be peacekeepers, Custodians are made for settling disputes in a city that is filled with people from all over the world and thusly can speak a multitude of languages. Custodians are able to communicate with each other using the magic that holds their soul together at their core and thus it is almost impossible to understand or speak by outsiders. The only non-custodian that can is their creator, Favia.

Size

 You are Medium size and weigh about 200kg                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Custodians are larger than most humans but not huge and being made mainly from metal, stone and wood, weigh a large amount.

Speed

Custodians have a base speed of 30 feet. Custodians have fairly basic movement as they are modelled after humans.

Ability Score Increase

Your Constitution score increases by 2.

Darkvision

You have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. Your lenses are allow for you to see dim light 60 feet ahead of you as if it were bright light and darkness as if it were dim light. You cannot see colour and see the colour of your core.

Zoomed in lens

You have advantage on perception rolls. Your special lenses are able to zoom in on thing allowing for a closer look if need be.

Heavy Body

You do cannot swim or float, Instead in water you sink. Being made from incredibly heavy materials, Custodians are not able to swim or float, instead they float straight to the bottom and are able to walk on the oceans floor.
