Homebrew Bound Djinni Species Details

Once a proud master of the Elemental Plane of Air, you look at the lamp you call home and begin wondering how you got in this position.

Bound Djinni Traits

Your elemental attributes give you the following traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Strength score or your Charisma score increases by 1.

Age

While Djinn live as long as the Elemental Plane of Air exists, your magical binds separate you from its influence. When you were first bound, your biological age is 20 years or younger. You can live bound like this for another 120 years, aging similarly to how humans age.

Alignment

While Djinn are often good-natured, your imprisonment may have left a lasting impression on your psyche. You decide how your alignment has changed if it has.

Size

You used to have a powerful frame, but now you are stuffed in this sorry 5 to 6 foot tall meat sack weighing between 100 and 200 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Headwinds

You know the gust cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the gust of wind spell once with this trait, and you regain the ability to cast it when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Lamp

The lamp you are bound to is both your home and your prison. While you are within 30 feet of your lamp, you can use an action to retreat into your lamp with all the equipment you are wearing or carrying (except the lamp). While inside the lamp, you can hear everything that is happening outside of your lamp as if you were in its space, and you have total cover from all attacks and effects originating outside of it, though you are blinded. You can use a bonus action to exit the lamp with your equipment, appearing in its space.

Your lamp is a Tiny magical object with a number of hit points equal to ten times your character level and an Armor Class of 17 plus your proficiency bonus. It is immune to poison and psychic damage and has resistance to damage from spells. If the lamp is hit with a critical hit, it becomes a normal hit instead. If your lamp is destroyed, you die, and only a true resurrection spell can restore you to life. Taking a long rest with the lamp in your possession restores the lamp to full hit points.

If you die within 30 feet of your intact lamp, your body and all the equipment you are wearing or carrying turn into smoke and are sucked into the lamp. The lamp filled with your dead smoke is a valid target for spells, like raise dead, with the sole effect of restoring you to life (but not undeath). And if the caster does so, they ignore the material components of the spell. If your lamp is destroyed while you are dead, only a true resurrection spell can restore you to life.

If you die more than 30 feet away from your intact lamp, nothing happens to your body. If you are restored to life (or your soul inhabits a new body through the clone spell), your lamp reforms if it was destroyed and teleports into your possession, even between planes if necessary. A creature can revive you even if you are not willing.

Limited Wish

As a bonus action, you can touch another creature within 5 feet of you and confer some of your trapped genie magic into them. Once during the next hour, that creature can use an action to produce the effect of one spell that is 6th level or lower and has a casting time of 1 action. The spell can be from any class’s spell list, and the creature doesn't need to meet the requirements in that spell, including costly components; the spell simply takes effect as part of this action (Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier, Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier). Once the creature uses this effect, there is a 33 percent chance that it can never gain this benefit from you again.

Once you use this trait, you cannot use it again for another 7 days.

Storm Soul

You have resistance to lightning and thunder damage.

Superior Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Languages

You can read, speak, and write Common and Auran.
