Homebrew Vulpaxi Species Details

Oasis the vulpaxi, the first species to help me out during my search for the professor. Eventhough vulpaxi are shy to other species and tribes it looks like this tribe leader is willing to help me out. With his big ears to cool down in this extreme climate and dark coloured eyes, he looks at me pointing in a certain direction. At first I thought he was not able to understand me, but later I figured out Oasis actually speaks common, so do all vulpaxi. Together we continued my journey through the hills of sand. After a while I noticed the vulpaxi was walking on it's bare paws. With the thick hairs between it's paw pads the vulpaxi are able to walk on hot surfaces. Quite interesting!

A fennec like creature that dwells in the deserts of different continents. Vulpaxi have big ears to cool down their bodies. Their fur protects them from the cold nights in the desert and with their dark, big eyes they're able to spot prey at night. Vulpaxi walk on two legs like humanoid creatures. They use their paws and claws to hold their weapons. If they want to run they run on all fours. 

Lucky tails

At a certain point vulpaxi were almost hunted to extinction. Folklore mentioned their tails to bring luck if kept near you and your family. Vulpaxi got captured by poachers and even got bred for their tails. 

After hundreds of years, different races who believed in this kind of luck figured out it did not have any effect. The small population of vulpaxi was able to repopulate their deserts and are now even able to walk  freely on the streets without being hunted

Shy and Curious

Vulpaxi are a curious kind. They cherish the bonds of their tribe and tend to only leave their tribe to either find a partner or when kicked out. The couriosity of the vulpaxi shows when they're exploring the desert terrains around them, but they prefer not to explore further than their territory. Only a few want to adventure further, to seek friendshiep and wanderlust. They love discovering new things, even simple things, such as an exotic food or an unfamiliar style of clothing. Vulpaxi like to explore those things alone or with their own.

They tend to be shy towards other races, but once they open up to them, the vulpaxi will start to explore every bit of the other race. 

Standing out

Since there's not many vulpaxi left, they tend to stand out in a crowd. Vulpaxi don't live in the big cities or villages. Some people will never see a vulpaxi in their lives, since they've become so rare. 

The vulpaxi don't like it to stand out in a crowd. By their shy nature they prefer to blend in. Another reason vulpaxi tend to stay with their own, which only increases this struggle for vulpaxi to become part of society.

Leather and Bones

Female vulpaxi are known to make clothes for their tribe, while male vulpaxi collect materials. Their clothes are made of whatever they can find in the desert or erea they live in. The materials mostly used for their clothes are leather, bones, feathers, bark of trees and their specialty, cactus leather. 

Certain vulpaxi  have made their way to villages and have discorvered the use of cloth. This message of a new material is slowly spreading to different tribes.

POLITE AND QUESTIONS

Vulpaxi are curious, yet shy. They can ask lots of questions and will try to be polite, to try to get along with everyone else. Sometimes a vulpaxi being polite can be interpeted as quite rude. 

Food. “I'm not sure if you want to help me out, but can I.. Can I please have some pumpkin soup. Only if it sui..suits you, ofcourse! ?”

Sharing. “I thought we were going to sh..share the loot, but if you'd prefer to keep it all for yourself, I'd totally under.. under..understand. Can I ask you a question real quick? What are you going to do with your part of the loot?”

Humans. “So this is what a human looks like. I never left my tribe before re..really, so it's fascinating to see! I was wondering, you don't have to answer if you don't want to. How is it to have no fur on your body? You don't have fur right? Right? Besides the little ball of hair on your head?”

Exploring Opportunities

Vulpaxi usually set out on the adventurer’s path to defend their communities, support their friends, or explore a wide and wonder-filled world. For them, adventuring is less a career than an opportunity or sometimes a necessity.

Vulpaxi Names

A vulpaxi has a given name, which are based on their surroundings of the day they were born. Vulpaxi named are genderneutral and they don't have last names since they all belong to the same family tribe.

Vulpaxi Names: Sand, Stream, Cactus, Hill, Cold, Bloom, Dry, Cracks, Oasis.

Subrace

The two kinds of vulpaxi, Sandborn, the fennec like vulpaxi and Coldfurs. Coldfurs look like artic foxes and live in freezing climates. Choose one of these subraces or one from another source.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and Wisdom increases by 1.

Age

Vulpaxi reaches adulthood at the age of 21, whichs translates to 3 human like years. They get about 105 years old in dog years, this means they are able to reach a general age of 15.

Alignment

Most Vulpaxi tend to lean towards chaotic and neutral allignments. They seek opportunity for themselves and their tribe, but usually don't include strangers in their plans. Eventhough Vulpaxi can be kind, they are able to switch at any moment if they see opporunities. They are also very orderly and traditional, leaning heavily on the support of their community and the comfort of their old ways.

Size

Vulpaxi average about 3 feet tall and weigh about 40 pounds. Your size is Small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Darkvision

In the darkness of the desert, vulpaxi use their darkvison to spot prey. You can see in darkness (shades of gray) up to 60 ft.

Scorching Paws

With the fur on their paws Vulpaxi are able to withstand high temperatures on all surfaces. This makes their paws heat resistent. This does not mean vulpaxi are fire resistent.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Vulpaxi. The Vulpaxi language isn’t secret, but Vulpaxi only use it in gatherings of their own species. Almost all Vulpaxi speak Common to converse with the people in whose lands they dwell or through which they are traveling.
