Homebrew Catalus Species Details
Appearance
The appearance of Catalus is very similar to humans, with their size ranging from just three feet, all the way up to eight. They almost always have tails and ears of a cat, though ones without tails and ears are not unheard of. They have the bone structure of a cats, but are bipedal, though small ones are comfortable switching back and forth to quadrupedal. They have retractable claws in their hands and feet, and are usually human in appearance, but other races have been identified in Catalus. Their markings are also innumerable, with the most common being wild cats, such as lions, tigers, cheetahs, leopards, and lynxes. Another common variety are typical house cat patterns, such as the simple tabby, ranging from any color to any pattern typical of a standard tabby house cat.
The Catalus are blessed with the reflexes, heightened senses, ability to see in the dark, and agility of their feline counterparts and can shift into said creatures at will or occassionally when startled (varies depending on the Catalus). A rare race to stumble across, many slavers attempt to apprehend them and sell them at high prices as slaves or servants to nobles or crimelords. Scattered throughout the world, their real homeland remains a mystery to all but them, each Catalus somehow knowing how to return home.
Death Seekers
Catalus were created by Bhaal, god of murder. He wanted children who could do the dead of death without being caught, captured, seen, or stopped. When the pure gods tried to stop him he simply replied, "The Tabaxi now carry my children and you will have to live with it."
Once established in the world the Catalus set off and surprisingly enough most tried to become regular workers instead of thiefs and assassins. Catalus, through their strange desire to work hard to prove themselves, became well-known for being quick learners, devoted workers, and loyal companions.
Crazed Heritage
It is said that the first tribe of Catalus was the most hard working and skilled of the cat races. The original generation was accepted into a village of peaceful settlers, consisting of dwarfs, humans, elves, and many more, including the incredibly rare dragonborn mixes. Because of this, future Catalus generations adoapted to behave most like their neighbors instead of the murderers they were intended to be.
Some Catalus however retain most of their original purpose, with a lust for blood and money setting off to make good of their father's name. These ones roam the back corners of alleys and streets eliminating any who dare come close; some have even the liberty of eliminating higher powers.
Cat Homes
Catalus have always had issues sleeping in open spaces and all alone tending to sleep in more cramped spaces near other people typically small groups of other Catalus. This lifestyle makes them good company for copper-less adventurers and there skill with a blade helps to.
Some Catalus have banned together in order to form there own cites were they can be themselves without getting strange stares. They also have a tendency to welcome outcasts and other lonesome people.
Strange and Kind
Catalus are very accepting of other people and on rare occasions they welcome pure evil people an through there kind tendency they have even changed some hearts and minds. They take every opportunity to try and understand the people around them because they believe friendship is much better then the pain they were created to give. Because the Catalas language ,Catalan, lends itself well to music, many Catalus teach their young about the race’s history through song and dance. This has also inspired Catalus to become whoever they want to be not what someone else wants.
When in the company of other races, Catalus want to be helpful taking any jobs no one else wants to do. Some Catalus use there skillful grace in order to preform for show or even become vigilantes. Some of the more powerful Catalus become guards blacksmiths and even take up being assassins for more pure nobles. No matter what happens,Catalus will always strive for greatness and to improve on themselves and others.
