Homebrew Ariel Species Details

"I was lost in the peaks for days.  I thought for sure I was going to die.  Then as gently as down upon the wind she descended.  The most beautiful creature I ever saw.  She had long dark hair, and huge pearlescent wings.  I thought I had died and was being carried on to the hereafter.  Instead she gave me food, told me how to get down the mountain, and advised I take up another line of work."

Ariel come in many different shapes and sizes, and range in height and coloration.  Their wings can also vary in color, and seem to be tied to their diet.  Most Ariel are born without wings.  The wings usually develop from nodes on the child's back, at the onset of puberty.

Ariel names are usually light and have some breathless quality or represent nature and birds.

Ariel Traits

Your Ariel character has the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your Charisma score increases by 2.

You increases any other ability score by 1.

Age

Ariel mature at the same rate as humans, but typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 30 and can live to be 750 years old.

Alignment

Most Ariel are good, or neutral alignment. There have been cases where they have been perverted by outside forces and can even be evil.

Size

Ariel have the same range of height and weight as elves.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet. 

Flight

You have a flying speed of 50 feet. To use this speed, you can’t be wearing medium or heavy armor.

 

Darkvision

Living in the high peaks, and needing to differentiate threats in darkness. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Advantage on Perception checks

Ariel borrowing from their avian cousins, have advantage on perceptions tests involving eyesight.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Celestial.
