Homebrew Amazonian Species Details
“I am the goddess of truth, yet you remain... A man of mystery. What I deserve is to know more about a man who professes such interest in me.”
—Diana Prince
Physical Description
Amazons can possess a wide range of skin and hair colors, being even more varied than humans. Their skin most commonly ranges from extremely dark to borderline transparent, as with humans, to white, black, various shades of grey, and more uncommonly any color of the rainbow or any color in between. Their hair runs a similar gamut of colors, with colors such as brown, blonde, and black being more common, but also including white, grey, red, and more uncommonly the other colors of the rainbow.
Society
Amazon culture has a focus on combat, hunting, and warfare, with amazons priding themselves on their physical strength, and every amazon having at least basic proficiency in common weapons and fighting implements. By sharing their territories with angry beasts and grandiose animals they developed extraordinary skills to fight them. They see the use of armor as a sign of weakness, viewing it as a cheap substitute for true combat ability, and as such, on the rare occasion that an amazon does wear armor, that armor usually is ornamental in purpose, offering little to no actual protection. Amazon culture also has no nudity taboo, with any clothing that is worn usually being for decoration of one's body. This can cause a culture clash when amazons visit other cultures, or when people from other cultures visit an amazon settlement.
Because of their minimal sexual dimorphism, amazon culture has no concept of gender or gender roles. If a concept of gender must be applied to them, they would all identify as female; they do not consider physical sex to be core to one's identity because of spells like change sex being easily accessible in most amazon settlements.
They tend to apply feminine forms of words to everyone, even men, such as calling a male hunter a "huntress."
History
Amazonians were a race which came to be when a group of women fled from invaders seeking conquest on their formerly peaceful jungle settlement. Cornered, the women begged for the power to fend off these barbaric invaders, lest they be taken as slaves and raped. The god of war heard their cry and blessed them with the power they desired, as well as the aggressiveness to boot. With their newfound strength and vigor, they slew their enemies in vengeance. They no longer had to fear for their weakness, as there was none. They were strong. However, the aggro continued and they found themselves thirsting for challenge. They declared their settlement in the jungle their central headquarters where they would thus go forth and conquer others, no longer content playing the conquered. To date, they boast an impressive record in military feats.
