Homebrew Dog Folk (Improved) Species Details

The Dog-Folk are as loyal, kind, and amiable a people as they are rare. The few that do exist are typically adventurers that travel with (almost exclusively) human companions. they have exceptionally short lives with some of the most ancient Dog-Folk living to 45. While Dog-Folk are short for this world they mature quickly; reaching full maturity at 5 years old. On average, most members of this race rarely get over 85 pounds, making them quite small in stature overall. However the largest members have been known to grow to be the size of man, although these specimens are beyond rare to find. Many Dog-Folk have trouble thinking for themselves and usually rely on other more intelligent races to give them orders, rarely learning to read, create or innovate. They are however exceptionally loyal, and brave, willing to lay there lives on the line for their pack at any given moment. This bravery (while noble) can lead to short-sighted, and rash decisions that put their lives in constant danger all in the name of protecting the pack. This also lends to their mortality and subsequent rarity as they are loyal to a literal fault. They have exceptionally strong jaws that can break bones in combat, as well as the ability to break into all fours to increase their speed and nimbleness in combat. While dim at times, you could not ask for a more loyal, brave, and unconditional adventuring partner than a Dog-Folk

Dog Folk (Improved) Traits

Bite

Dog-folk can deliver a nasty bite with an extremely powerful jaw

Your bite attack deals 1d4 + STR + proficiency piercing damage and acts as a grapple attempt. if you choose to latch onto them with your jaws, you hinder the use of the limb, granting disadvantage with any action they try to perform with it. when you roll a natural 20 on this attack, you may latch onto their throat automatically dealing aforementioned damage at the end of both of your turns. while latched onto an medium sized opponent, you slow them by 15 feet (small, they are grappled, large, they are not slowed) and you can both attack each other normally. An opponent can use their turn to make a Strength check to try to pry open your jaws (DC=10+ your STR+PROF) or move normally (DC=8+ your CON+PROF)
