Homebrew Chwinga Species Details

Chwingas stood 0.5‒1.0 ft (15‒30 cm) tall, resembling small animated dolls with masks for faces. No chwinga masks were alike, and they often took the form of animal faces. Their hair was wild and unkempt while their limbs were slender and lean. The presence of chwingas was foreshadowed by mild natural phenomena, such as the presence of harmless insects or pleasant flowery scents. Further indication could be found in cool breezes, and a lusher surrounding scenery.

Personality

Incredibly shy in most aspects of their lives, chwingas were naturally curious and fascinated by humanoids, whose signs of civilization were alien to chwingas. Beings that wore armor, carried weapons, cooked food, and used tools were of great interest to them. Those that piqued a chwinga's interest enough could find themselves tailed by the diminutive elementals, and given minor magical boons. The features that drew chwinga to individuals seemed completely arbitrary, ranging from height and hairstyle to artistic talent or other strange abilities.

Abilities

Chwinga had the power to bestow various supernatural aids on those who caught their curiosity and compassion. They were agile and hard to pin down, primarily due to their hiding skills. They possessed the ability to take shelter and hide inside their natural surroundings, like in rocks or trees, becoming totally impervious to danger. Like most elementals, chwingas did not eat, drink, or breathe, but unusually they did sleep. Dead chwingas became petals, pollen, a puddle, or a stone.

Society

Chwinga lived and slept within natural objects like rivers and trees. They were incapable of speech and didn't have names.

Evasion And Innate Spellcasting

When the chwinga is subjected to an effect that allows it to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, it instead takes no damage if it succeeds on the saving throw, and only half damage if it fails.

The chwinga's innate spellcasting ability is Wisdom. It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material or verbal components:

Unusual nature

The chwinga doesn't require air, food, or drink. When it dies, it turns into a handful of flower petals, a cloud of pollen, a stone statuette resembling its former self, a tiny sphere of smooth stone, or a puddle of fresh water (your choice).

Magical Gift

Magical Gift (1/Day).

The chwinga targets a humanoid it can see within 5 feet of it. The target gains a supernatural charm of the DM's choice. See chapter 7 of the Dungeon Masters Guide for more information on supernatural charms.

Charms

See page 228 of the Dungeon Master's Guide for how charms are awarded and what kind of benefit they grant.

Charm Benefit
Charm of Counterspell This charm allows you to cast the counterspell spell as a reaction. You can use this charm twice, then it vanishes.
Charm of the Fell Blow You may expend this charm when you score a critical hit with a melee attack that uses Strength. When you do so, the target of your attack takes an additional 21 (6d6) damage of the weapon's type, and you sever one of the target's limbs, with effects as determined by the DM. If the creature has no limb to sever, you lop off a portion of its body instead. This effect works regardless of whether or not the attack you used deals slashing damage.
Crazy Tracy's Secret When you are first reduced to 0 hit points, you immediately recover 28 (8d6) hit points.

Natural Shelter

Natural Shelter.

The chwinga magically takes shelter inside a rock, a living plant, or a natural source of fresh water in its space. The chwinga can't be targeted by any attack, spell, or other effect while inside this shelter, and the shelter doesn't impair the chwinga's blindsight. The chwinga can use it's action to emerge from a shelter. If its shelter is destroyed, the chwinga is forced out and appears in the shelter's space, but is otherwise unharmed.

Ability score increase

Wisdom and Dexterity are both increased by 2.

Strength is decreased by 2
