Homebrew Anubid Species Details
Anubids are a highly intelligent race descended from of a species of rare wild canids. Uplifted by a mysterious ancient culture, they retain much of the canid form save for their grasping hands and ability to walk on their hind legs. Like their ancestors, they have a keen sense of smell and hearing, but they have lost their ability to communicate with other canids. Most Anubids harbor a deep sense of unease, feeling that they belong neither in humanoid societies nor that of their ancestors.
Anubids tend towards careers that require high levels of intelligence and dexterity such as Artificers, Rogues, and Wizards. Unlike their ancestors who lived in large packs, Anubids are most comfortable working alone or with a few close allies whom they trust. They are fiercely protective of those that befriend them and are averse to those who experiment with animals or use them for hard labor. They are a spiritual but not a highly religious race, tending to find peace and meaning in the natural world and their hunger for knowledge.

Age
Because they were uplifted to have humanoid traits, the lifespan of Anubids is much longer than that of their ancestors, averaging between 70-100 years. Anubids still develop much faster than most humanoids however, and are considered adult at 5 years of age.
Alignment
Anubids value their allies as well as their solitude, and often follow their hunt for knowledge wherever it takes them. They tend to be neutral good or chaotic good.
Size
Anubids average 6-7 feet and weigh 125-175 lbs. They tend to be slender with tall, pointy ears, a narrow snout, and a dog-like tail. Your size is medium.
Appearance
All Anubids have a coat of short, smooth fur and most are completely black in color. A few individuals have white coats due to albinism. Even rarer are Anubids with a silver coat. Every few hundred years, a new coat color tends to appear at random in their population. They do not exhibit significant gender dimorphism.

Darkvision
You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You cannot discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Anubids have retained the keen senses characteristic of their ancestors, granting advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.
