Homebrew Awakened Dog Species Details
Loyal Companions
Dogs tend to form strong bonds to their companions. Though it may take some indivituals a long time to get attached to others, when a dog trusts someone, they would go to the ends of the earth for that person. This makes them both great friends, and very prone to manipulation by evil beings.
Exploring Opportunities
Curiosity is a driving force of many a dog. They are likely to go sniffing out things they find interesting, even when they really have no business doing so. Another common reason dogs become adventurers, is to support their friends in their travels. Many would die or at least face grave danger for their comrades. It is often hardly even a question for a dog, wether or not to follow their friends to battle. It is not too rare for a dog to have a genuine will to do good in the world and help others. Some may head out for just this reason, to spead as much kindness as they can.
Awakened Dog Traits
Your Awakened Dog character has the following racial traits.Dog's Bite
You have a natural bite weapon that deals 1d4 + strength modifier of piercing damage.
Wilderness Walker
Your build, agility and stamina make you a natural at traversing through the wilderness. You are not effected by difficult terrain.
Ability Score Increase
Your Wisdom score increases by 2, and your Dexterity score increases by 1.
Age
Awakened dogs have lifespans equivalent to humans.
Alignment
Awakened Dogs tend toward chaotic alignments, as they let impulse and fancy guide their decisions. They are rarely evil, with most of them driven by curiosity rather than greed or other dark impulses.
Size
Awakened Dogs are the Average size of the type of dog breed they are. Your size is Small.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 35 feet.
Beast Nature
Your creature type is beast. You can be affected by game effects that affect beasts but ignore those that affect humanoids.
Darkvision
You have a dog’s keen senses, especially in the dark. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Canine Agility
Your reflexes and agility allow you to move with a burst of speed. When you move on your turn in combat, you can double your speed until the end of the turn. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you move 0 feet on one of your turns.
Keen Hearing and Smelling
You have proficiency in the Perception skill.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and Canith. Canith is a language consisting of various barks and howls, along with body language. There is no written form of the language and it is rather lacking in words. That said, there are many songs and stories in told exclusively in Canith that have been passed down for generations. Most Dogfolk love to share them, despite the fact that to an untrained ear they make absolutely no sense.
