Homebrew Wombat Species Details
Wombats are considered a small race standing no bigger than 2-3 feet tall.
They are generally considered to be lawful good or neutral adhering to the laws of the forest and their Forest Queen Mielikki. Their skin (fur) is usually some mixture of black, grey and brown, with the occasional red haired wombat appearing rarely.
Eyes are typically brown or black.
Most Wombats tend to stick to themselves and their family. They are very capable of surviving in the wilderness.
TRAITS:
Ability Score Increase:
+2 Wisdom, +1 Constitution
Darkvision
You can see in dim light within
60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in
darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern
color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Home in the Wild
Wombats thrive in conditions that other races find inhospitable.
They are able to find sustenance even in the wake
of forest fires by eating roots and tubers until
surface vegetation has a chance to regrow. As
such, you have proficiency in the Survival skill.
Shepherd of the Small
During times of strife and even disaster, other woodland beings
find shelter and support in wombat villages.
Wombats are trusted by other small beasts and
woodland folk for their generosity. Through
sounds and gestures, you can communicate
simple ideas with Small or smaller beasts. You
also have advantage on Charisma checks to
communicate with small burrowing beasts that
you encounter underground.
Bite My Furry, Wombat Behind
Wombats
are very thick skinned. They even develop more
cartilage in their rear than other creatures. This
way, when a predator chases a wombat to their
colony, they can dive in the burrow head first and
stop, blocking the entrance and offering nothing
but rock hard buns to crack teeth on. Your
natural resilience to damage gives you a +1 to
your armor class.
Natural Sprinters
Wombats normally have a
strange and lumbering waddle for a gait. When
threatened, however, a wombat can reach speeds
of up to 25 mph for distances of up to 500 feet.
This means they can, when needed, be as fast as
a horse. Your survival instincts allow you to move
with a burst of speed. When you move on your
turn in combat, you can double your speed until
the end of the turn. Once you use this trait, you
can’t use it again until a long rest.
