Homebrew Coralback Species Details
Physical Description
Coralback are large crustaceans who have gained a large exoskeleton from allowing coral to grow on their backs as armour. Coralbacks have ten arms, with eight being disabled on land due to being used for movement when submerged. The Coral on their back are generally large and bulky, slowing them on land, and causing them to sink in liquids.
History
Royal guards to the nobles of a large kingdom, awakening after three centuries of slumber to grow their armour back to its former glory.
Society
Coralbacks spend most of their time in a sleep like state allowing them to live for extended periods of time and allowing them to host coral reefs upon their bodies. The massive size of these creatures causes them to look intimidating to smaller races, and causes them to be shunned by those outside of their own race.

Your Base Walking Speed is 25. Your Base Swimming Speed is 30.
Amphibious Gills
You can breath both air and water, but your gills are required to be wetted once a day for an hour, otherwise gain 1 stack of Exhaustion until they have been wetted for an hour.
Natural Armour
While you wear no armour, your AC is equal to 12+ your Constitution modifier. You may wield a shield and still gain this benefit.
Thorn Body
Your shell is comprised of corals that end in sharp points. When ever you are struck with a non-reach melee strike, unarmed strike, or natural weapon, the attacker takes 1d6 points of piercing damage + Constitution Modifier. Whenever you are grappled, the attacker takes 2d6 piercing + Constitution Modifier. Your natural and unarmed strikes deal an additional 1d6 points of piercing damage.
Languages
Coralbacks primarily speek Deep Speech, but are also taught Common for trading purposes.
Superior Darkvision
Coralbacks are accustomed to the lack of light in the abyss and have evolved compound eyes allowing them to see clearly. You have 120ft Darkvision.
