Homebrew Avani Species Details
Hidden deep within the most remote jungles and forests, the hermitlike Avani rarely venture into the outside world. Deeply suspicious of other humanoids, they prefer to remain within their own tribes, and only occasionally will some young fledgling be struck with the urge to see the world
Appearance
Avani are small humanoids with brightly colored skin marked with unique patterns. Feathered wings and tails sprout from their backs and feathers mix with their wild hair, and they will often have horns sprouting from their foreheads. Though their arms resemble humans, talons replace human feet, giving them purchase among the branches of their home as well as on solid ground
Habitat
While Avani are comfortable in the air, they are most at home among the branches in the dim light of a forest where they will hunt or forage for a living. Trade has been struck up between some tribes, though they will rarely deal with outsiders.
An Avani may leave his or her tribe to seek help if their home is in peril. Very little else will draw them out. They do tend to have strong ties with their pantheon and some Avani have been sent on quests or errands for their gods in the past, some returning home to great reward, rising to new heights among the tribe.
Mannerisms
Avani speak dialects of Auran among themselves, though many do know common and even aarakocran. Avani are small, excitable, moving in quick, jerky movements and always seeming on edge, alert. Like their larger cousins, Avani love shiny objects, and are quite skilled in working such items into their clothing and jewelry.
