Homebrew Cat Species Details
Somewhere along the way something went horrible wrong, you now find yourself in the body of a cat. Maybe you angered a mighty wizard or maybe you stumbled upon some ancient cursed item. By the end of the day you are now a tiny beast, with your wits about you it seems. Almost no one will find anything magical about you when they examine you and most common folk in Faerûn will assume you are a simple cat. With your new form you are unable to use any gear from your previous body and you find that your strength has left you.
While this may seem like the end for most individuals, you are an adventurer, and you will give it your all, even if your all is restricted by the frame of an animal. Small biological advantages exists with this form, and you will become the cat hero (or villain) Faerûn needs. While playing as this race there is specific rules to adhere too, listed below
- A True Polymorph spell has been cast on you, only a level 9 Dispel Magic spell may remove it or similar magic.
- Only a Detect Magic spell of level 9 or higher will find the active magic effect of the True Polymorph spell.
- Your strength score can never be above 3.
Cat Traits
Your new form is very unique situation for most sentient beings in Faerûn, there is a staggering number of things to keep track of and you do well to remember as much as possible, least you find yourself in a dangerous situation.Speed
Your base walking speed is 40 feet, your climbing speed is 30 feet.
Size
You are a tiny creature, you can occupy the same space as a creature of medium size or larger.
Ability Score Increase
One Ability Score of your choice increases by 2 and one Ability Score of your choice increases by 1.
Natural Proficiency
Your new body gives you proficiency in Stealth and Perception.
Animal senses
You have Darkvision for 60 feet and advantage on any Perception checks that rely on smell. You do however have disadvantage on any Perception that rely on sight if what you are trying to perceive is farther than 60 feet away from you, due to you being nearsighted as a cat.
Age
You age as the same rate as your old race.
Languages
You can read Common and one other language that you remember form your old body. You are able to speak only magically or telepathically. You can write but you are unable to use common tools used for writing by humanoids.
Creature Type
You are a beast, you are unable to use any gear, tools, weapons or clothes made for a humanoid. Your new form also means new dietary requirements and instinctual behaviour you are not used to. No hands makes it impossible to perform some simple tasks your old body could do. Some actions and skills are modified due to this. Your carrying capacity is also reduced due to being a tiny creature.
- You are unable to Grapple through non magical means.
- You are unable to Shove through non magical means.
- You have a base -20 modifier for Sleight of Hand checks.
- You are unable to cast spells with somatic components due to lacking hands.
- You are unable to cast spells with verbal components due to not being able to speak.
Weak
Due to being a tiny creature you have lost almost all your strength. Your strength score is 3 and you have disadvantage on Athletics checks.
Nine lives
You always land on your feat and take half damage from any falls. You also have proficiency in Dexterity or Wisdom saving throws.
Sharp Claws
Instead of using a weapon to make a melee weapon attack, you may use your claws as a finesse attack (this does not count weapon attack). On hit, a Claw attack deals 1d4 + your Dexterity modifier slashing damage, you are proficient with your Claw Attack.
Inconspicuous
Your new form makes it unlikely anyone will find you a threat, blending in comes easy for you now. You also have disadvantage on any intimidation checks.
Catnap
You are able to take a short rest in just 10 minutes once per long rest.
