Homebrew Sprite Species Details
Where the Inner Planes bleed into the Material Plane, an abundance of magic can be found. From large forests born from the excess life magic, to the tallest mountains where the wind can be tamed, and even in the caves far below the surface where rocks glow, Sprites call these areas their home--acting as protectors to these Inner Planes to keep magic from being used for dark purposes. Their connection to the magic gives them increased power to hide their own presence, choosing to live in secret most the time. They only choose to reveal themselves when the situation demands they do, or they feel they need to act.
Planar Gate Keepers
Being used to seeing magic in all its shapes and forms, they are quite knowledgeable of the subject and are capable of giving lengthy lectures if need be. They help keep the peace within the Material Plane and protect the areas where the lines of the planes blur to try and keep the magic in check. They work with the Avatars of the elements to ensure no strangers disturb these lands.
Fey-blooded
Having once called the Feywild their home, they are not only quite magically gifted, but quite the pranksters. They have strict rules and laws they govern and believe they should never be broken. Even the youngest of Sprites are capable of using bursts of magic to an extent, that they eventually grow into. Their magic tends to be defined by the magic of the surrounding area. Most spells they use are harmless and are used more to trick outsiders than to cause harm.
Family Tribes
Sprites hold strong connections to their tribes and consider their tribes their family rather than having just blood family. They will always take care of one-another, especially if the true blood relatives have passed away. Many will refer to others their age as their siblings and those older as their grand/parents. Some Sprites choose to leave the tribes in search of leading different lives, but will always find family if they choose to return. Sprites are also very receptive to the other tribes. While even further from family, they will treat other Sprites with respect and ensure they've helped however they can.
Becoming banished from a tribe is, in a sense, death for a Sprite. They lose any connections they may have with their tribe and have no-one they can look to for help from the tribe. They often develop the title of 'Wanderer' for no longer having ties to their tribe.
Sprite Names
Sprites at birth typically have names at birth that reflect their surroundings, such as Cinder or Skylark, and upon reaching maturity, choose their own name. Most names have no true meaning, but are a collection of syllables and sounds they feel a connection to. As such, there is no definite masculine or feminine names. An excitable Sprite may take the name 'Popoi' where a soft spoken one may go with Thalesh. They carry no last names, but will introduce themselves with their tribe name as a stand in last name.
