Homebrew Troll Species Details
Under the feet of society, where most would expect nothing but plumbing and earth, dwell a reclusive race. Well known in mythos, trolls appear in various different places, most well known being in the mythology of the Norse Vikings, but they are actually everywhere. Skin of stone, sensitive to light, most trolls in the modern day have taken to living in the shadows, underneath the chaos of human life, but that does not stop them from interacting with the world above in rather mysterious ways.
Conflict Amongst Them
Long ago, the trolls had large conflict that ended in a definitive split within the race. The typical troll, such as those existing in Arcadia, were the victors of this war and as such are considered to be the "good" trolls. The "bad" trolls are called "Gum-Gum"s, and were exiled to the Darklands in order to contain their destructive and violent ways.
Since their banishment, the Gum-Gums have been employing the use of a type of troll called "Changelings" that take the place of a human on the surface world. These Changelings, often called "impures" by the other trolls, have a specific type of magic that allows them to take the form of their human counterpart and allows for them to avoid the challenges that sunlight typically present to typical trolls.
These three subsets of trolls have had a tense relationship between them ever since the war, which still impacts things in troll society to this day, and likely will continue to impact it far into the future.
