Homebrew Arachnoid Species Details

A small Gnome sized race similar in build to Driders but very different.

They live in the depths of the Underdark worshipping Driders.

Arachnoids have no definitive origin while there are theories there is no evidence to support them. One of the more popular theories is that they were once a group of ancient Gnomes that were cursed by Lolth the spider Queen and have since bread on. But once again there is no proof.

Most Arachnoids worship Driders as demigods (similar to how kobolds worship dragons), viewing them as a superior versions of themselves. While Driders are Driders as a punishment by Lolth the spider Queen it appears that Arachnoids see it differently, they aren’t very good at leading themselves, so they desire leadership from another source and since Driders appear to be a bigger more capable Arachnoid, a blessing from the spider queen answering their prayers for a strong capable leader. Because of these reasons Driders have become a symbol of joy, unity, and leadership in the Arachnoid culture, Driders who have themselves a following of Arachnoids seem to experience a major ego boot. Those who are unable to find a Drider to worship spend most of their lives hiding from all the big nasties in the under dark and searching for a Drider to give them purpose.

A female Arachnoid can produce up to 28-150fertile eggs after being impregnated (the bigger the abdomen the more eggs they lay.) With a gestation period of 5 months inside the mother and take about 3 months to hatch.

Arachnoid Traits

Spider like

Description

Arachnoids like Driders have the lower body of a spider, however a Arachnoids upper half resembles more of a pointy eared Gnome or Halfling. Further more Arachnoids bodies (upper and lower) are covered in a fuzz, on males it’s a fuzz all over while females have a fuzz on the upper half and more of a fur on their lower half (mostly on the tidia, metatarsus, tarsus, and abdomen.), this fur is so long and thick that it needs daily brushings and maintenance. Arachnoids have 8 eyes in total, 2 large main humanoid eyes and 6 smaller spider eyes just below.

Height and size

Male: 3-4ft tall with longer legs and smaller abdomens.

Females: 2-3ft tall with shorter legs and larger abdomens.

Webbing

Arachnoids have the ability to produce webs from their abdomens. This webbing can be used for setting traps, make tents and other temporary homes, grabbing far away objects, and most importantly it can be use it for knitting.

Web shooting: In battle Arachnoids can shoot a web to stick an opponent to any nearby surfaces ( an athletics/acrobatics check to avoid.) if caught must roll a strength check 13 or higher to escape for there turns until freed. An Arachnoid can preform this attack 8 times before having to role a Dexterity save of 15 or higher, if successful they can do it 8 more times then make another dex save, if failed they will experience a web jam and will only be able to squirt small pitiful strands of web. This is fixed by a long rest.

Arachnoids can’t produce any webbing while experiencing exhaustion.

Web Walker

The Arachnoids ignores movement restrictions caused by webbing.

Spider climb

The Arachnoids can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

The benefits of the small.

Males being larger then females cannot ride all mounts, the only mount big enough to carry them being a wyvern but let’s be honest here and say that won’t be happening. Females are smaller and can ride all mounts, in fact they are known to use their mates as mounts while pregnant and even after (lazy buggers), it is a funny sight to see these tiny spider ladies resting on the larger males back and bossing them around. (Especially when the male is actually an Arachnoid but a giant male Drider.)

Aging.

Arachnoids are matured by age 15 and can live as long a 5 centuries.

Languages.

Common and undercommon.

Swimless

Arachnoids don’t have the ability to swim being spiders.

Spider body

Do to your Spider rump you can’t wear any armor below your the belt. No greaves, knee guards, or boots/shoes... I mean unless you wanna talk to your dm about custom spider armor. Also you are your creature type is both humanoid and monstrosity.

Everybody Hates Spiders.

Like Driders, Arachnoids are viewed as abominations. Most people are afraid of you or distrust you. Most people try their best to avoid you no matter what. This causes you to take disadvantage on persuasion and deception rolls when dealing with those who dislike spiders. However you get advantage on intimidation roles on those same people.

The 8 legs of dance.

Surprisingly enough Arachnoids love music and dancing. You get advantage on all performance roles and a 1d6 bonus to performance roles.

Darkvison

Ah you were born in the darkness, molded by it, didn’t see the light till you were a full grown spider, and by then you had 60ft of darkvison.
