Homebrew Devarian High Ogre Species Details
Physical Description
The Devarian High Ogres are unlike typical examples of the High Ogre race. Their spirits are bound to Praetor as Praetor is bound to them. Their spirits have two aspects, their natural Ogre aspect, and their Law affinity aspect. In essence, there are two distinct spirits within every Devarian, one that expires as normal and one that cannot expire. These spirits are reborn again and again, meaning that Devarians have access to the experiences of several lifetimes in their subconscious. In their waking mind, they cannot recall past lifetimes or events, but there is a strong mystical force within them often referred to as The Voice or The Ancestors Call.
Physically, Devarian appears similar to normal Ogres, though a fashion more distinct than many Ogre, who could be mistaken for royalty. Despite this, Devarian can be and historically have been considered to look much more proper and refined than their counterparts. Devarian bare the mark of the plane of Law through many different physical features. Nearly all Devarian are uncommonly beautiful and still, they stand with perfect posture and walk with grace.
All Devarian wear “markings”, and their patterns may vary but always look like some sort of temperament. Either a light or a dark color may be dominant, meaning that a Devarian might appear light yellow on dark yellow or dark yellow on light yellow, neither being particularly more common. Whatever the case, the dominant color makes up the regular color of skin, while the lesser shade appears in patterns across the face, chest, and shoulders.
When a Devarian Ogre is born they appear suddenly in a blast of light at the peak of Praetor, they are rarely created as infants and usually exist fully grown. While High Ogres can reproduce with one another, Devarians cannot. This has long been to the belief that above all else order must be maintained and that only a finite number of Devarians need to exist.
Devarian emotions are invariably intense, though they mask it well by being intuitively aware that they have been here and done this before. This gives the Devarian people a nonchalant stride through very intense circumstance. A Devarian’s mental serenity at its core is from being very open about every thought, feeling, and opinion since deception and silence is considered more harmful than beneficial.
Devarians are the ultimate service of law and order, though they still have the capacity for tolerance and open-mindedness, even in the face of chaos. When confronted with obeying the law or obeying moral instinct they will almost always choose the ladder.
Unlike most races the Devarian do not communicate often with others of their species, their culture exists within their own collective experience. Though they cannot recall specific memories of past lives they feel a strong connection to different experiences and emotions. Their heart will pound with excitement at participating in an activity once loved by a prior life. This is usually what creates a generational call to adventure.
Playing a Devarian High-Ogre
As shown in the above the Divarian High-Ogres are largely defined by their affinity for law and thirst for experiences. Think of yourself as a vessel for an ancient thrill seeker holding a carrot on a stick. You seek to perfect your skills and talents, you seek to learn more, and experience everything. Above all else, you seek to rid the world of destructive chaos, the kind of chaos that drives men to murder and greed. You understand that a few drinks are all fun and games but drunkenness is destructive. You seek to understand where law guides chaos into a flow that is acceptable and functional. You are a creature of passion, with a heart that at its core knows is a descendant of the great slave that saved a realm.
Cosmetic ideas
These High Ogres take a lot of pride in looking symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing as it honors order and law. The more complex the “markings” the better!
