Homebrew Completely Normal Human Species Details

  • Physical Appearance. A Changeling's true form is odd. They share bits and pieces of different races, none of which properly meld. And there is no uniform look for changeling, as these features tend to shift just as often as a changeling itself might. One may posses the tail of a tiefling, the ears of of a Tabaxi, or the rich blue skin of a Drow. But another may have the pointed ears of an elf, the variance of a human, or the feet of a Kobald. They can be bi-pedal or multi-legged, though bi-pedal changeling's are more common because they easily shift into other forms, and blend in. Changelings simply look wrong, because they were never meant to be. Their creation is shrouded in mystery, and most Changelings do not even remember how they came to be, they simply were one day. They grow at slightly faster speeds than humans, which is why many Changelings choose the form of a human in their younger years. Changelings are an anomaly, which leads discovered Changelings to be studied by many scholars and wizards. They typically die in captivity, if they are caught.

The only feature that remains uniform for all Changeling's is their pitch black tongue, and at least one black eye with shining white pupils. And perhaps most hauntingly, an almost Venus-flytrap-like maw, patiently waiting to reveal a set of razor sharp teeth underneath.

Completely Normal Human Traits

The Changeling's most well known trait, and it's biggest giveaway, is it's ability to shift between forms. Some Changelings may plan out up more than ten different forms, while others may have only one or two.

Change Appearence

You decide what you look like, including your height, weight, facial features, the sound of your voice, coloration, hair length, sex, and any other distinguishing characteristics. You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, though none of your game statistics change. You also can’t appear as a creature of a different size than you, and your basic shape stays the same; if you’re bipedal, you can’t use this trait to become quadrupedal, for instance. Your clothing and other equipment don’t change in appearance, size, or shape to match your new form, requiring you to keep a few extra outfits on hand to make the most compelling disguise possible.

Even to the most astute observers, your ruse is usually indiscernible. If you rouse suspicion, or if a wary creature suspects something is amiss, you have advantage on any Charisma (Deception) check you make to avoid detection.

Unsettling Visage

Using this trait reveals your shape shifting nature to any creature within 30 feet that can see you. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
