Homebrew Ampitera Species Details

ANCIENT TREEFOLK

The East Jungle is full of unique plants and animals, many not seen in any other place. The Ampitera are one good example with their gorgeous plumage, long naga-like bodies, and predisposition towards magic. The Ampitera are widely believed to have built most of their cities primarily in the treetops with only very few buildings at ground level such as great stone temples, granaries, and sometimes palaces.

Ruins of their civilization tend to be very small and sparse with only some stone walls around a fairly small area of land, temples, and stone circles which are believed to be ancient granaries. It’s this sparseness that leads people to believe that the bulk of their cities were built out of wood and quite likely in the treetops as treehouses and tree markets.

MAGIC SUPREMACY

While old Ampitera writing has yet to be translated, the relief art in their temples has given insight into their ancient culture. The Feathered Dragonborn were likely paternalistic and seemed to worship a creator god who was born from an Orchid and fought against an evil volcano god that sought to destroy all that is beautiful and good.

Druidic Magic was believed to be connected to their creator god, giving the feathered dragonborn power from the very trees and soil that surrounded them. As such, the rulers of their cities and empire were likely arch druids and priest-kings who wielded immense power. Magic was paramount to them, and anyone who had difficulty wielding it would be forced to work the farms and animal pens and other working class jobs. Those who wielded magic to an average degree would become the middle class of sorts, with more fulfilling jobs such as artisan pottery, baking, and forming the backbone of their militaries. Powerful mages would form the aristocracy and leadership.

FALL OF THE AMPITERA EMPIRE

Around the year -1300 or so, the Brute Harbingers found their way into the jungle and fought against the Feathered Dragonborn. At first, the Feathered Dragonborn had the upper hand, but then the brutes used their breath of burning flames to start burning the jungle down. The smoke and heat kept them from flying away, and utmost of their cities were attacked and razed. The jungle would take 1000 years to recover, but the once-mighty Ampitera empire would never recover. But the ancient Ampitera left their mark. They called on their god to curse the Brutes for eternity, and his curse stripped them of their fiery breath.

Ever since the fall of their empire, Feathered Dragonborn became extremely rare. They can still be found in their home jungle in what is now Wyveli, but there are only about 1000 of them left in the world as far as anyone knows. Even most of the feathered folk don’t know much about their ancient culture and language.
