Homebrew Bariaur Species Details
Bariaurs are centaur-like beings of the Feywild, combining humanoid features with those of goats. Roughly human-sized, a bariaur has the body of a large goat and the torso and arms of a human. The head is a mixture of human and ovine features. Males and females both have horns, varying in size and amount of curl. Their skin is pale tan to dark brown, while their hair ranges from brown to golden.
Bariaur tend to be fussy about their appearance. They usually wear shirts, jackets, blouses, vests, and leather girdles, but this is a matter of personal taste rather than decorum. They also dye, cut, and shave their pelts to make themselves look more attractive, at least to each other. The look is often finished with jewellery hung from horns or woven into their woolly hair.
Bariaur are normally social and outgoing, though they keep wary of strangers until such have earned the bariaur's trust. They have a love of games both physical and social, from racing and wrestling to singing and storytelling. In combat, bariaur have a reputation for ferocity and fearlessness.
Bariaur are a carefree lot. Most possess a powerful wanderlust that makes them appear irresponsible and unsettled to some. They rarely establish towns, and few bariaur even have permanent homes. They often congregate in herds of their own kind. Less adventurous bariaur favor a pastoral life of tending sheep herds, watching over meadows, and acting as guardians of the wilderness. The more dauntless are driven to range far and wide by boundless curiosity, and can be found anywhere from the forests of the Feywild to the plains of the prime material and the streets of Sigil amid the Outer Planes. They are culturally herbivores, with most considering the eating of meat to be revolting. Some bariaur living wild as rangers have been known to eat the animals they hunt.
