Once normal people, now bound in darkness. A pact made with an old god has bound this soul to a cycle of death and resurrection, each time they die they are sent back to the sleeping Palace, a horrifyingly beautiful place within the Far Realm. A glimpse seen of this place leaves the mind less intact each time.
Upon death the soul is sent back to the Palace to await a new soul before being shunted through time and space to awake within the body of a chosen sacrifice, to once again work to bring about the ultimate goal of resurrecting the Old Gods on the mortal plane.

The Sleeping Palace causes any who gaze upon it to lose a piece of their mind to it, forgetting trivial or important parts of what makes that person themselves. This gives them a resistance to charm effects that are placed on them.
