Homebrew Clone Species Details

“You know that you are a part of me."

"I'm nothing like you."

"Even you know the nonsense of that statement. You ARE me."

— Lich Edgelord to his clone

To be one of a group can be a great thing, but separated and thrown into a world of variety and color can be confusing and strange. Clones must find their originality on their own. May that be creating an entirely new identity and keeping their status as a clone secret or attempting to become an individual within their own cluster, Clones player characters find that the world outside of their cluster is strange and dangerous.

Stole Your Look

Due to your nature, you were made as an exact copy of your creator. Whatever your creator’s folk-type is, that is what you will appear as. However, there are a few common features of clones that vary with how powerful the magic that created them was.

Features: "Early clones" are a few of the first that the creator brought to life successfully. Early clones are made from in practice and a small sacrifice, as in order to awaken a clone, the creator must sacrifice a part of their body. The bigger the sacrifice, the more believable the clone will be. With too small of a sacrifice, the clone may emerge with deformities or missing parts. Early Clones will have similar features to their creator but may have gray-colored skin that is dry or flaking as if to mimic shedding. Early Clones may have clear, cloudy eyes. They may also be completely hairless.

The more advanced the clone is the better the body will match the creators. The difference between sacrificing a lock of hair and an entire arm will prove how the clone emerges.

Born of Broken Flesh

Born from powerful magic and humanoid flesh, your type is undead. Being undead comes with benefits as well as detriments. Any spell that affects Undead creatures will affect you as well. Any spells that do extra damage to Undead will do extra damage to you. With a disguise, you can hide being undead but any spell that can Detect Undead will alter the caster of your type. You cannot be healed by magical spells such as Cure Wounds and Healing Word, but you can be brought back by Revivify and healed by healing potions.

Undead PCs also are immune to disease and resistant to poison damage. You cannot be charmed or frightened.

What's in a Name?

Typically, clones are not given names but instead, a number in order. As you are not an individual, you could have adopted the name of your creator. Upon separating from your clone cluster, you have free will to name yourself whatever it is you chose. You may have chosen a popular name in the first town you’ve stumbled across, or one that you’ve read in a book.
