Homebrew Chiropteran Species Details
From shallow caverns in mountainous terrain, to lush forests where plants grow wild, one might find the Chiropteran, oft-referred to simply as "Batfolk." Native to the Feral Dominion of the Material plane, these leathery-winged humanoids with Furred bodies and elongated arms ending in two, lengthy digits, their bodies are capable of flight due to the skin growth that comes off of their arms, and is supported by extra 'digits.'
They are predominantly a nocturnal species, capable of quick, dexterous maneuverability in pitch-dark conditions similar to those found in the Caverns that many Chiropteran clans call their homes.
Muzzle and Fur
Being a member-race of the Feral Dominion, Chiropteran individuals are considerably furrier than many races of the world, bearing various muzzle-lengths, and oversized, alert ears. Their fur color ranges from warm orange-yellows to cool browns and darker greys. There are some height variances between different clans, and between height and the size and shape of a Chiropteran's muzzle, one can typically denote their preferred method of sustenance. A shorter Chiropteran with a smaller muzzle typically are insectivores or Facultative Carnivores, whereas smaller Chiropterans with a longer muzzle are noted Frugivores. The opposite is seen in the larger Chiropteran clans, wherein the size difference can be as little as one to as great as three feet in additional height.
Cavern and Moon
The Chiropteran people are found predominantly split between two worlds. The Smallest cousins within their race are oftentimes found roosting in large colonies inside of caves, caverns and Ravines, tucked away and out of sight of the world above, only emerging at dusk to hunt and carry messages to other roosts. The larger-sized clans among the Chiropteran families prefer to roost during the day in small villages tucked into the deepest, darkest forests and subtropical jungles, where the air is thick and heady, and are more often likely to be crepuscular or cathemeral, active at different points on the clock depending upon personal schedules.
