Homebrew Wyvernborn Species Details

Born of wyverns, as their name proclaims, the wyvernborn walk proudly through a world that greets them with fearful incomprehension. Wyvernborn have large wings, left from an ancestry long past, enabling flight. They also have two grey horns on their heads and slightly long faces.

Wyvern Kin

Wyvernborn look very much like dragons standing erect in humanoid form. Unlike dragonborn they have large wings and a stinging tail. Their small, fine scales are usually brass or bronze in color, sometimes ranging to scarlet, rust, gold, or copper-green. They are tall and strongly built, often standing close to 7 feet tall and weighing 250 - 280 pounds or more. Their hands and feet are strong, talonlike claws with three fingers and a thumb on each hand.

Wyvernborn Names

Wyvernborn wish to be free to do as they please, whether that is to steal a rich human's gold or help poor people. They dislike being restricted, and they usually won't do as they are told. They do possess the capacity for action of any alignment, and are not always chaotic. Some might meet a good, law-abiding Wyvernborn, though that is less likely.

Age

Young wyvernborn grow quickly. They walk hours after hatching, attain the size and development of a 10-year-old human child by the age of 3, and reach adulthood by 15. They live to be around 70.

Poison Resistance

You have resistance to poison damage, and immunity to the poisoned condition.

Wyvern Ancestry

Instead of being granted a breath weapon like dragonborn, you possess large wings, and a long stinger tail. You have 40 ft. of flying speed, which you can use as long as you are not wearing medium or heavy armor.

Stinger

As a bonus action, you can attempt to strike a target within 10 ft. of you dealing 2d6 poison damage. The poison damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. You can attack with your stinger a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, after which you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
