Homebrew Dahakoan (DragonKin) Species Details

Glorious Draconic Mutation

Born from the communion of Dragons and Dragonborn, the Dahakoan inherits the best of both worlds. They walk proudly and with grace among the world, often feared or admired from afar as the world baffles at their existence. Shaped into this new form by either the Gods or Dragons themselves, the Dahakoan hatched from dragon eggs as a unique variant, emphasizing the best attributes from both the Dragon and Dragonborn form. Some Dahakoan follow in the footsteps of their parents by either aiding their goals or perhaps adventuring out as they did. Making excellent ground and air soldiers the Dahakoan have become a valuable asset to armies, while other's seem to follow a calling in life to explore what led up to their creation. The Dahakoan remains a mutant variant among the Dragonborn and are often either shamed away out of jealousy or disgust. But there are also those who accept the Dahakoan as the next step in evolution for the Dragonborn, celebrating and watching their growth closely.

True Dragon's

Dahakoan look very much like their Dragonborn cousins although they gain what the other do not, wings are always the first sign of a new dragonkin whether a tail accompanies it is up to pure chance. The first Dahakoan had scales of vibrant hues matching the colors of their draconic parents, although the colors of the scales have been known to either drastically or subtly change, perhaps just another mutation that occurs at birth. Their small, fine scales vary from brass and bronze to green and red in color but vary to the extremes, most of the time matching their draconic kin. They are tall and strongly built, often standing close to 6½ feet tall and weighing 300 pounds or more. Their hands and feet are strong, talonlike claws with three fingers and a thumb on each hand.

Survival of The Fittest

The Dahakoan are born into a life of hardships from the start. Often times they will have to choose on whether they wish to live a life of solitude or join the clan of their Dragonborn cousins. This choice is mostly made for them as the Dragonborn themselves have two-sided understanding of the Dahakoan, either they welcome them with open arms as one of their own, or they outcast them, labelling them as an abomination.

The Dahakoan remain honorable and proud despite their experience growing up to take in as much knowledge as possible from wherever they find themselves. Growing up in a clan the Dahakoan learn the same traditions and customs as there brethren, they are taught to live and die with respect and honor, to above all else devote themselves to the clan and live everyday as if it were their last. Living elsewhere however the Dahakoan take in whatever they associate themselves with, if they found themselves in a guild they would learn about many different creatures and to perhaps hone their combat skills even further than before. Maybe they've stumbled down a path of sorcery and study the arcane arts rigorously in order to deepen their understanding of their heritage and the full potential of magic.

Whatever life a Dahakoan is given they life it to the fullest and with little regrets, standing by their actions and living with honor. The proudness of a Dragon fills their body and influences the life of one more than they realize. Dahakoan have been designed to live and thrive in any environment that is thrown at them. But they are not by any means arrogant, they know when things cannot be done alone and are not shy to asking for it. While they are proud creatures, they lack the hubris that often times fills their true draconic kin.

You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your draconic ancestry determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exhalation. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. After you use your breath weapon, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.

Damage Resistance

You have resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
