Homebrew Axolt'ol Species Details

The Axolt'ol people spend most of their lives in water, and it is also where they are most comfortable. They can, however, live and breathe on land, though it is not preferred. As such, most communities will be found on the coast or near bodies of water, such as lakes and rivers. Their coloration ranges from pure white, to a deep pink color. Typically, the darker the color, the stronger or more prominent a person is in their community. They are also community oriented, living in tandem with the land and each other. As such, most are relatively peaceful, and will skew towards good orientations.  Many live their lives without traveling much, with many fearing the outside world and its threats. To this end, their is always a dedicated warrior class in every community that is allocated to explore locales and defend the villages from outside threats. Despite their small size, the Axolt'ol people have a close connection with the Sea Gods, and as such many have an innate magical power. While most members of the community do not use their powers, and as such lose them over the years, the warrior class have refined their magical skills for generations in some cases, and are potent magic users. Those who show an innate magical prowess above the average citizens are often taken under the wing of full-fledged guardians, and are trained in the ways of magic. When their training is complete, these fledgling mages will embark into the open seas, where they acquire a shard of sapphire, which the village elders, who are those with the closest connection to the gods, will acquire the blessings of the gods to turn the sapphire shard into a divine or arcane source, based on the desires of individuals magic users. Some of the most powerful warriors in these communities wield both, so that they can use the full extent of their magic. 

Axolt'ol Traits

The Axolt'ol people are largely magic users. They often have higher intelligence and charisma for spellcasting, with lower strength and dexterity due to their small size and struggles to live on land.
