Homebrew Dracoblood Species Details

Draconic Heritage

Born from old magic and left over eggs believed to be of the First Protector Dragons, Dracobloods most often appear in a humanoid-ish form. They are only born from Metallic bloodlines, and usually find themselves aligned with causes for good. It is very rare that any Dracoblood wanders with no purpose in life as most tend to devote themselves to one side, either good or evil.

They are a very rare species, and only a few are hatched each few centuries. They are raised in the confines of their secret lair where dragon eggs and old magic are stored, raised by druids and such under oaths to ancient dragons or other deities that believe in dragon protectors protecting the innocent and lesser beings. They are often trained in combat, defensive strategy, or medicine, or a mix of the three.

Draconic Beliefs

Dracobloods often follow Bahamut, the platinum dragon. Their beliefs therefore align with his personality and beliefs. Dracobloods are rare to be confirmed of the lineage of Bahamut, but there are a few known to be of his direct lineage.

Bahamut is stern and very disapproving of evil. He brooks no excuses for evil acts. In spite of this, he is among the most compassionate beings in the multiverse. He has limitless empathy for the downtrodden, the dispossessed, and the helpless. He urges his followers to promote the cause of good, but prefers to let beings fight their own battles when they can. To Bahamut, it is better to offer information, healing, or a (temporary) safe refuge rather than to take other’s burdens upon oneself. Dracobloods will often live by similar moral values and beliefs.

Draconic Humanoid Form

Dracobloods most often appear in a humanoid-ish form, with humanoid traits only enhanced with extra muscle, thickened skin, sharp pointed scales of their dragon bloodline around their shoulders, spine, cheeks, backs of their palms and wrists, and lower legs. They also have dragon wings, tails, and horns. A Dracoblood's coloration typically matches that of their dragon parent. In this form they stand 6-8 feet tall, and often around 200-300 pounds. Their scales are also tough and provide protection to an unarmoured half dragon that can only be matched by heavy armour.

Like their draconic parent, a half dragon does not sleep, but must enter a meditative state similar to an elf's reverie to absorb elemental energies that match their breath weapon.  Precious metals speed this process up and as such nearly all half dragons sport rings, amulets, bangles and clothes with gold sewn into them.  These metals allow the process increased efficiency so that a half dragon can gain the same restorative benefits of rest that any other humanoid would gain.  The drawing of this elemental energy not only rejuvenates the half dragon, but allows it to charge its breath weapon.  A half dragon posses a breath weapon in line with his heritage as well as gaining resistance to this element.

Dragon Scales

Dracoblood scales are tough and provide protection to an unarmoured dracoblood that can only be matched by heavy armour. While you aren’t wearing armour, you can calculate your AC as 15 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use a shield and still gain this benefit. Because of your size and dragon wings you cannot don armour unless it is specifically made to fit.

Draconic Eyes

Your draconic eyes allow you darkvision for 60ft - you can see in dim light as if it were bright light, and Darkness as if it were dim light.

Dragon Attributes

Dracobloods have natural dragon wings and tail that appear at all times. They can only be masked by masking spells. Because of this you cannot wear armour unless it is designed specifically to accommodate your dragon traits.

Elemental Affinity

Starting at 6th level, when you cast a spell that deals damage of the type associated with your draconic ancestry, you can add your Charisma modifier to one damage roll of that spell. At the same time, you can spend 1 sorcery point to gain resistance to that damage type for 1 hour.

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 1, your Constitution score increases by 1, and your Charisma score increases by 1.  At 11th and 16th level your Constitution increase by 1 in addition to any other ability scores you may increase.

Keen Senses

You have proficiency in the Insight and Perception skills.

Breath Weapon

You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your draconic bloodline determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exhalation. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 3d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 5d6 at 6th level, 7d6 at 11th level, and 10d6 at 17th level. After you use your breath weapon, you can’t use it again until you complete a long rest.

Aquatic Affinity

Because of their tail a half dragon can swim at a speed of 30 feet as long as they are not wearing medium or heavy armour.  They can also hold their breath for up to 5 minutes with ease.

Damage Resistance

You have resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
